Alain Delon

This movie pays quite a lot of tribute to gangster movies like "The Godfather" and "Iron Faced". The initial dialogue and negotiation are simply plagiarizing the opening of "The Godfather". Various Thompson machine guns have contacted Howard Hawks again. The scenes designed for various stories are exactly the same as other gangster movies. And the whole film's setting, photography, lighting, performance, etc. are quite Italian gangster, as if it was a non-Italian gangster or gangster movie after "The Godfather". Although the whole movie is quite Italian gangster cinematic, the whole story tells the story of a lone ranger. The gang adviser who walks on the edge of morality, facing the crossroads of destiny, the choices and methods, the whole is calm and lonely. A killer-style character, although he seems to always have a backstage, he has never really returned, a feeling of Alain Delon. The protagonist and the film's tone are completely different. This is really amazing. Fortunately, the Italian gangster movie's tone is like coffee and not cement, and the Coen brothers are superb. The whole is not too chaotic. I don't know if the Coen brothers learned the " With the breathtaking sound effects in "Old Nowhere", I gave up even after learning this film anyway. Even the gunshots are pictures and pictures, like playing rubber, it also adds wit and helplessness to the feeling of loneliness. What I have to say is really due to the consistent style of the Coen brothers, that is, how the story goes without the choice of the characters. The powerful aunt of "Old Nowhere" did not escape from this rule and finally got hit by a car, let alone here. However, this makes the movie always have a direction, without deviating too much. By the way, the Coen brothers really don’t know how to make love stories. They are stretched every time they reach the critical moment, so they always prefer to use the golden age set to perfuse. Fortunately, there are not many such elements in this film. The Coen brothers themselves have self-knowledge. I won't shoot scenes with love as the main subject. It can be seen from this film that Cohen was still immature at the time, and Cohen himself knew it, so he tried his best even at the expense of paying tribute and plagiarism to exploit his strengths and avoid weaknesses, which was still a straightforward film.

Can't help but give it five stars, the cologne flavor is too strong! Still a consistent Cohen-style character, the situation is not in the hands of the protagonist, luck and luck are the keys to the protagonist's victory. Tom is a great character, he is principled and calm, so he can perfectly plan this conspiracy. Fona, though under-represented, is so charming that she brings a lot of tenderness to this brutal story. Anyway, this story is so well made, it's worthy of the Coen brothers.

The Coen brothers are really the conscience of the screenwriters. Many character relationships are designed for aerial work. If they are not paying attention, they will fall off the line. They rely solely on narrative talent to control the reins of the text. The lines are close to the ancient Hollywood production, and the composition and mirror are also very particular, and the elegance and sullenness that are not common in the subject of gangsters are photographed. Hat trick and corpse magic, the crossroads of life and death.

Miller's Crossing quotes

  • Johnny Caspar: I'm talkin' about friendship. I'm talkin' about character. I'm talkin' about - hell. Leo, I ain't embarrassed to use the word - I'm talkin' about ethics.

  • Terry: The old man's still an artist with a Thompson.
