Without Wen Ziren, "The Conjuring" lost its soul

Hello everyone, I'm Alaska with glasses and a microphone.

A few days ago, I told you about "Chainsaw 9", and I felt that the classic IP that had been popular for 17 years was destroyed.

On the day of the press release, another horror IP sequel debuted:

The Conjuring 3: The Conjuring

The synopsis of the plot is well written: Shocked my mother for 30 years! Based on true events! Paranormal Investigator Warren's Big Crisis! One of the most sensational cases ever! The truth behind it is heartwarming!

Well, the last sentence is my own, but it doesn't go against the grain in this movie.

Because "The Conjuring 3" is not scary at all, it is even a little warm when you smack it carefully. It is simply a romance film in a horror film. Whether it is the plot, the core or the ending, it is full of positive energy.

The story takes place in America in the 1980s.

Falling crystal lamps, clearly visible claw marks, roars as if from another world, and low-pitched chanting... An exorcism ceremony is in full swing.

Not long ago, a family of four moved to a new house and moved into this big "Bie Ye".

According to the conventions of the "Conjuring" series, "Bie Ye" must be haunted, and it is the 8-year-old youngest son David of this family who is possessed by evil spirits.

The pastor plays an incompetent role in the film as always, and the lethality of holy water is not much stronger than that of footwashing water. David showed everyone amazing physical flexibility, and the situation quickly spiraled out of control.

The pastor was knocked unconscious on the spot, and the Warrens were on the spot, one was bound by a mysterious curse, and the other was pinched by the devil's heart.

At a critical moment, David's prospective brother-in-law, Ann, stepped forward, looked the devil in the eyes, and asked the other party to let David go and possess himself.

The devil said it had never heard such a request.

As Ann's body twitched, the scene was calm and the devil disappeared.

I thought it was over, but I didn't expect that the devil really lodged in An En's body.

Things in the house fell for no reason, mysterious ghosts spied in the dark, and the devil whispered in his ears... Ann's spirit was tortured, and he even saw all kinds of terrifying hallucinations...

When An En came back to his senses, his hands were already covered in blood. He stabbed 22 times, brutally killing the owner of the local kennel.

Ann was charged with murder, but it was just the beginning: demons whispered in his ear, influencing his thinking and abetting him to take his own life.

In order to prove that Ann's behavior was "bewitched by the devil" (the question is pointed!), the Warrens decided to start from the source, and they found a strange Satanist totem under Bieye.

This time it wasn't the demons of "The Conjuring 1" or the nuns of "The Conjuring 2" behind the scenes. The Warrens' opponents were Satanists.

Since then, "The Conjuring 3" has completely broken away from the framework of "Haunted House Movie", and has moved towards the path of supernatural detective + "War of the Soul".

Since the opponent is a human, I believe that with Ed's previous fighting power, one person can push Satanism to the ground.

The director obviously took into account the factors of unbalanced combat power, and thoughtfully arranged for Ed with heart disease and high blood pressure.

According to the law of conservation of energy, if Ed is weak, Lorraine is stronger. Since "The Conjuring 2" gave up scientific explanation of supernatural events, Lorraine's psychic ability has been greatly improved.

This time, her ability has been upgraded from synaesthesia, which is similar to the profile of criminal psychology, to conscious connection and shared vision.

Voldemort saw it and called him an expert!

When fighting with Satanists, it can even produce some sound and light effects.

With Lorraine's amazing psychic abilities, and Ed's occasionally flashing detective skills, they found the stronghold of Satanism through clues from another murder case and a hapless priest who studied Satanism.

However, Ed was soon caught in an ambush by the Satanists, and even killed his beloved wife Lorraine.

Ed has always played the role of Meng Zhang Fei in "The Conjuring", coupled with actor Patricia's strong physique and hairline that is getting closer to the strong, giving me a feeling that even if Satan himself comes, Ed can follow him. It has the illusion of two strokes.

This time he was bewitched, but let the audience stand in the perspective of a ghost and experience Ed's terrifying combat power.

Which is the sledgehammer eighty? What is the golden monkey swinging the stick? Under Ed's brute force, the stronghold of Satanism was like a demolition site.

Fortunately, at a critical moment, sincere love awakened Ed, they ended the curse ceremony before Ann committed suicide, and the Satanists were also attacked and killed on the spot.

There was no reversal and no easter eggs. The Warrens embraced each other sweetly, and the story came to an end.

There must be only two words in everyone's mind at the moment:

"That's it?"

You feel right, the current rating of "The Conjuring 3" has plummeted from 7.7 to 6.6, and is even declining.

In all fairness, The Conjuring 3 is barely a mediocre horror film.

As a new work in the "Conjuring" series, it completely loses all the highlights of the series, and is more like one of the unit episodes of "Supernatural". (Nothing to say that "Supernatural" is bad)

Whether you can be frightened or not is the first criterion for measuring the excellence of a horror film.

However, the horror of The Conjuring 3 is completely unqualified.

First of all, in "The Conjuring", director Wen Ziren proposed three stages of demon possession through Ed's mouth:

Harassment, coercion, and possession.

In fact, it also corresponds to the three scary stages of horror films: farting in an empty house, lifting the quilt and screaming.

Literally, it can be seen that the most scary is the first two stages, and the third stage is just noisy.

In the first two stages, the director often breaks the audience's sense of security through the abnormal phenomena in ordinary life.

Fear comes from the unknown. Once the demon appears, the audience's sense of fear will be greatly attenuated, and there is even leisure to appreciate the amazing control over the limbs of the actors possessed by the demon.

And "The Conjuring 3" jumps directly to the screaming, starting with a screaming exorcism and ending with another screaming exorcism. In addition to making the audience's eardrums hurt and mentally exhausted, Did not impress the audience.

The emotions are indeed strong and abundant, but intensity is far from the standard of a good movie, it is only the most eye-catching standard.

Secondly, the sense of fear needs to be foreshadowed, which is closely related to the scheduling of shots, the tone of the scenery, and the sound effects.

For example, in "The Conjuring 1", the paragraph in the canon of horror films: "If you feel happy, clap your hands."

Director Wen Ziren first used a long shot, took over the shoulder shot, and skillfully switched the perspective in his daughter's room;

Some attentive viewers may react, and then think deeply - whose perspective is the camera?

Combined with the warm-to-cold scene tone, the audience's unease is invisibly increased, paving the way for the final shock.

As my favorite gyro teacher said, the audience thinks they are watching the plot, but in fact, they have been subtly moved by the director's camera language.

The disturbed mother was locked in the basement. At this moment, director Wen Ziren used the huge dark space in front of her to mislead the audience, making the audience think that fear would strike from the front.

As the match went out again and again, the characters merged into the darkness again and again, and the hearts of the audience also mentioned their throats, for fear that when the firelight came on again, there would be a face-to-face dance with the devil.

Unexpectedly, a pair of hands suddenly appeared behind my mother, and then:

"Clap!"

This is effective fright, which requires foreshadowing, turning and feinting.

On the basis of the previous work, "The Conjuring 2" adds a lot of dark humorous elements, such as the chair that moves out of thin air in front of the police, and the ghost of the stubborn old man who always likes to fiddle with the remote control, all of which left a deep impression on the audience.

When it came to "The Conjuring 3", I suddenly pulled my hips, and the sense of fright was entirely due to Jump scares.

A monster suddenly appeared in the darkness:

The Satanists suddenly teleported and cut their throats in the dark:

Turn around and meet love, face to face with Satanists:

Only Lorraine was trapped in the stronghold of Satanism, and the circular mirror image encountered was somewhat new, reminiscent of the ghost that Wu Xie encountered in Genting Tiangong in "Tomb Notes".

It can be seen that director Michael Chavez dared to cut in from different angles and explore this IP from different directions, but unfortunately he has a great appetite and lacks ability.

He wanted to make a breakthrough on the basis of "The Conjuring", so he weakened the horror elements of the film and strengthened the supernatural scenes and detective elements.

However, psychics and detectives were originally contradictory to each other. If there were no clues in the detectives, they would become psychics. Wouldn't that mean opening a cheat?

What about filming "Tang Detective" here?

The detective process of "The Conjuring 3" is such a child's play, one by one clues are thrown into the faces of the Warrens.

If there is any advantage of this "The Conjuring 3", it is that it sings love.

When An En was suspended in the air and shattered the glass with his hands, he was about to end his life.

The possessed Anen's demonic energy was steaming, and even the priest was shaken back, and the guards were stunned outside the door.

Only Ann's lover, Debbie, rushed forward desperately and grabbed Ann's arm tightly. Although he failed to wake him up, he also bought precious time for the Warrens to break the curse.

In the end, Ann was sentenced to 5 years for manslaughter, and only Debbie squeezed into the crowded crowd, ignoring the uproar of public opinion, and offered an affectionate kiss.

If Ann and Debbie's love is desperate, then the Warrens are the mutual support of old husbands and wives.

Whether in the mortuary, Eddard has no hesitation in the face of "giant" ghouls;

Still on the cliff, Ed chased all the way regardless of his condition, struggling to save at the juncture of life and death;

Especially when the crisis was lifted, but Ed had a heart attack, and when he was about to burp, Lorraine opened the pendant she was wearing, which contained a special medicine that softened blood vessels.

It's 2021 and I'm still crying for the love of the Warrens!

Lorraine looked at the pavilion that Ed prepared meticulously for herself, snuggling in her husband's arms. This is probably the best look of love.

But it's not what The Conjuring should look like.

"The Conjuring 3" finally failed to break the curse of director Wen Ziren's "direct or rotten", and Wen Ziren himself is also busy in the post-production of another horror film "Fatal Induction".

Without Wen Ziren's "The Conjuring", if the universe wants to turn over, I'm afraid I can only wait for the next "Nun 2".

That's all for today, I'm going to live "Secret No. 9".

If you want to give liver protection tablets, remember to like it!

bye bye~

It's really not that good, I thought it would be as exciting as "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", but it turned out to be two episodes of American drama, and the best part was actually the love between the Warrens. . . . . . Actually, I really want to see the trial part.
