life sucks

The protagonist really has an evolutionary temperament. The kind of bloodthirsty madman who can't stand the middle-aged hair loss and become bald, and then go on a killing spree. With these teeth, small sad eyes and pale skin, he can also play a soulful vampire who has been locked up in the ancient pagoda for hundreds of years. The heroine wears glasses like Devi, but she's more naughty and doesn't have the wisdom to see through everything. Drawing skills and short hair styling are more Jane.

The whole film has an air of life is meaningless and sucks, like a group of unhappy high school students in a breakfast club constantly harassing numb adults and preparing to play a big prank on the world.

The art class was pretty cool.

It's really heartwarming that the heroine didn't get to go to college in the end.

When I watched it, I was really afraid that it would end up as "When everything collapsed, the heroine went to college with her artistic talent." Probably the shadow of the stormy Harvard Road...

Youth life is pointless and nonsensical, just like "So We Put Goldfish in the Pool", anything you do will be forgiven, but this state will end one day.

Starting a job, looking for a house, buying cheap plastic cups, quietly selling jumbo popcorn, that seems to be the so-called normal life, boring and dull. While the world around me was rapidly jointing, expanding and exploding, it seemed like I was the only one still spinning in place.

Choosing to don't give a shit is a way of not admitting that you grew up, and it's also a self-protection mechanism.

But everyone expects me to have only one side, and only wants to see my side, I can't be uncertain. I can't really play tricks on you one second, hopelessly fall in love with you the next, and regret having slept with you the next.

Those who end up thinking it's cool also choose to wear ill-fitting and ugly jeans from their date because being alone is so fucking unbearable. It seems that there is no one way to go, we can't stay young. You have to grow up, you have to endure the pain.

Of course, you are also responsible for everything you do.

I really like the tone of this movie.

I like the movies of this era, everyone has all kinds of weird fluffy and explosive hair, colorful eye shadows, rooms full of artistic sense of posters, many strange little objects, contrasting colors and bold shapes (like the transparent phone of the heroine)

There are also noisy pictures and a special narrative rhythm. Life has no ups and downs, everything can be broken and healed quickly, so be it.

Ghost World quotes

  • Graduation Speaker: High school is like the training wheels for the bicycle of real life. It is a time when young people can explore different fields of interest and hopefully learn from their experiences. In coming to terms with my own personal setback, I have been able to learn that I don't need to rely on drugs and alcohol, and that I'm very lucky that more people besides myself and Carrie weren't injured in the accident. And I have learned that to overcome life's obstacles you need faith, hope and, above all, a sense of humor.

[as everyone else applauds, Enid and Rebecca look at each other and laugh]

  • Roberta: [in Art Class, the teacher is asking about their homework: create a piece of art that responds to something you have strong feelings about. She spots a wire sculpture made from two coathangers] Who is responsible for this?

Margaret - Art Class: I am.

Roberta: Talk to us about it.

Margaret - Art Class: It's my response to the issue of a woman's right to choose. It's something I feel super-strongly about.
