Out of the Blue

This is a heart warming story about the life changes of a retired old man, but still it impressed me so much that I have already started thinking about my own old age and even my life nowadays.
I give special credit to this magical rhythm empowered by Jack Nicholson's vivid portrait of old Schmidt, because it helped me get through a quite tough period of my college life. I have written what I have made through encouraged by the film a year ago and that article is now attached right under this review on the webpage.
Old Schmidt was like the rest of us in the way that we all have to face up to millions of anguish- mood periods from time to time. He tried to get out of them in his own special way just like we do in our own ways . And sometimes the path we took might not be broad enough to get us out of the blue just as Schmidt's unsuccessful journey to his daughter's wedding. In times like these, we should always survive our faith and hope for life. Because just as old Schmidt finally found that drawing from the little child he has sponsored for years, we could somehow found our own keys to open the door which will lead us out in the sun again.
It's a song for life. It's about love, about spirit, and About Schmidt.

I always thought the groom with the weird hairstyle was very familiar, but after checking it, I found out that it was the handsome male protagonist who played against Amanda Peet in Griffin&Phoenix. OMG! Changing the look is completely different. It seems that people really rely on clothes, and the beauty and ugliness are only in the line. There's no need to say much about Nicholson's acting skills, but I just can't relate emotionally to the single life of a retired widower. Compared with pictures, I may be more moved by words.

The content is still a humorous satire on the decadent life of a middle-class man in the American Empire. Even if I use the road movie mode that I can't accept the most, I still have to admit that every Payne movie is perfect, including this one.

About Schmidt quotes

  • Larry Hertzel: All I was doing was welcoming somebody into the family.

Roberta Hertzel: Larry, we've been welcomed by you, thank you so much, now would you please just drink your fucking milk and shut the fuck up.

  • Warren Schmidt: You're making a big mistake, don't marry this guy, don't do it.

Jeannie Schmidt: What are you talking about?

Warren Schmidt: The other night I had a dream and it was very real. Your mother was there and you were there and your aunt Estelle. And there was a... well, it wasn't really a spaceship, it was more like a blimp or an orb of some kind. And then a bunch of weird creatures came out and started trying to take you away, and you wanna know what? They all looked like Randall. Do you understand? And I was jumping up and down to save you.
