"Dumbo": The trouble with big ears [The 2nd Cannes Film Festival Best Picture Award]

Dumbo (1941) This

film won the 2nd Cannes Film Festival Best Picture Award in 1947. This film is also the fourth in the Disney classic animated feature film series.

The movie tells the story of a baby elephant with big ears. The elephant mother, who had been waiting for the baby elephant, finally came to send Zihe, but the baby elephant sent there had a big ear, which made the other elephants laugh at their mother and child. The mother and son in the circus participated in the first performance. People made fun of the baby elephant's ears. The elephant mother was very upset, so he rushed forward. This caused people to flee. In the end, the elephant's mother was subdued and locked up in a small dark room. The baby elephant who lost its mother was very sad, and the other elephants continued to mock him. The mouse, who could not understand him, decided to help the little elephant, so he encouraged the little elephant to perform, and helped him to tell the idea of letting the little elephant be the protagonist in the ears of the circus boss. On the second day of the performance, the other elephants worked very hard, but the little elephant who acted as the protagonist got caught in his ears because of too big ears and knocked over the elephants, causing another riot in the circus. After this incident, the little elephant became a clown and became the object of ridicule by the audience. In the evening, the mouse took the baby elephant to find his mother, and the mother sang a beautiful song. Later, the baby elephant drank alcohol mixed with alcohol because he was thirsty and became drunk. After seeing the baby elephant drunk, the mouse also took a few sips. As a result, the elephant and the mouse had a dreamlike dream, and when they woke up they found themselves in a tree. Only then did the mouse know that the big ears of the baby elephant could be used to fly. In this way, the little elephant flew up with the enthusiastic help of the crows. In the end, the little elephant became the star of the circus and lived happily with the elephant mother and the mouse.

I have nothing to say about this movie, because it is not a fairy tale suitable for adults. Fairy tales are low IQ stories for children to see and educate children to grow up, and the plot of fairy tales is extremely simple, so I don’t know what to say. Just talk about the theme, that is, through the story of Dumbo, tell the children not to choke on their own shortcomings, be brave and be yourself, and you will succeed in one day. It will be like the Dumbo in the film, from a ridiculous ugly monster to a popular circus star.

This film is a cartoon filmed in 1941, but it already has two major characteristics of Disney cartoons, one is good music, the other is a fantastic picture. Regarding the first one, let’s not say much. For a one-hour movie, music alone takes up nearly half an hour, and it’s the first one that sounds beautiful and fits the plot. Regarding the second, the most outstanding is of course the dreamy picture after drunkenness, the various deformations of elephants, the switching of various scenes, the colorful and strange colors, etc., all of which are dizzying for me. I admire the magic of disco animation. . In short, the film has become a classic. Whether it is the picture or the music, it will be pleasing to the eye in any age.

However, although the picture, theme, and music of the film are excellent, the plot is very ordinary, and there is no exciting and attractive point. To put it simply, it is straightforward, and the basic plot can be guessed. Therefore, although this shortcoming is harmless, it also affects the overall quality of the film, which is regrettable.

The movie was watched in Taiwan, and I listened to standard Mandarin with a bit of Taiwanese accent. It was very cordial. At least it feels a bit better than the blunt tone of the national team-the Taiwanese accent is a bit softer.

in conclusion. This film is an excellent and good film, but it won the Cannes Film Festival award, which makes me a little puzzled. Probably the Cannes Film Festival has just started, and it is not so "artistic" yet.

4.5 When such a work was shot in 1941, Disney’s early creativity was really amazing. With limited technical conditions, the creators put a lot of effort into the film’s music, dance moves and image portrayal, building a circus, and being drunk. The two scenes show the characteristics of Disney Fantasy and Dance to the fullest, which is amazing.
