The running-in of the two people started from the fisherman's beating and scolding → allowing you to draw pictures → scolding the small merchants together as a fool → you can paint and I will sweep the floor → after marriage, all kinds of duplicity do things for Mo Di → quarrel and reconcile and help Mo Di found her daughter's two lonely hearts to meet and be needed by each other is a very lucky thing

Four and a half stars. The Canadian version of Yu Xiuhua, a woman of literature and art who is completely indifferent, low-profile, and easy to satisfy. Disease, art and love, all three themes are covered. The emphasis is on love, but I feel that what the heroine needs most is art. As long as she draws, art itself is enough to make her happy. The female lead is amazing, and there is a hint of sadness to see Ethan becoming an old rough man.

Maudie quotes

  • Everett Lewis: I'm lookin' for a woman...

  • Everett Lewis: Used to be Captain John Ryan's. But I moved it here, from the wharf.

    [cracks his knuckles]

Everett Lewis: Guess how many, uh, oxen it took to move it.

    Maud Lewis: Two?

Everett Lewis: Not two. No. Seven!

    [laughs]

    Everett Lewis: Seven oxen.

Maud Lewis: [laughing] That's a lotta oxen.
