"Blue Deep Sea": Every moth that flies into a fire has traveled a dull road

I have seen a passage about the expression of feelings, described in the form of comics:

Each of us is half a circle, or a large half, or a small half, but there is always a missing piece.

The circle kept looking for the missing piece. Find a piece that fits together and see if it makes a perfect circle. Only in the process of moving forward together will we know whether the synthesized circle is suitable. If you feel that they are similar, stay together, and if you feel that it is not suitable, you will continue to look for the next one until you find the half that feels complete.

When two circles form a complete circle, it will move forward naturally and happily. If the two circles do not fit together, the combination may not be better than a circle, and may even be deformed. Sometimes it may be that a semicircle swallows another circle, so that a circle completely loses its original appearance.

When these two pieces are very inappropriate, various problems will arise.

I guess that was the case with Hester and William's marriage, William was not her piece of the circle, so she was trying to find the piece of the puzzle that had fallen out of her.

The story of the movie "Blue Deep Sea" is about a love story that happened in London around 1950. Hester is a London high-society woman who has a very respectable marriage to outsiders: her husband William is a woman. She is a judge, but there is a big age gap between the two. Her husband is like an old man. He looks like he loves her very much, but he can't give her anything.

So, when the tall and handsome Freddy stood in front of her, she suddenly had a hope, the hope of redeeming her life like dead water. The two quickly came together.

After her husband William found out, he advised Hester to go home and not to be greedy for that moment of lust.

Hester said that what she lacked was not lust, but nature.

Why do you say she lacks nature?

Let's see, Hester and William cannot sleep in the same bed, and this request was made by William's mother. After marriage, a mother who even takes care of sexual affairs will not miss any opportunity to control, and a man who obeys his mother's will no matter how he sleeps will naturally not be the man his wife wants to rely on.

Hester couldn't find any fun in a childless, sexless, suffocating marriage. She has no job and seems to have little value other than being responsible for being young and beautiful and creating a shell that looks quite happy.

Hester made up her mind, she left home, rented a house, and lived with Freddie.

But after a few months, the first sight of beauty fell apart.

Freddy stumbles upon a suicide note left to him by Hester. Hester had attempted suicide when Freddy was away, out of anger, hatred and shame, but thanks to the landlord's discovery in time, there was no tragedy.

Hester's suicide made Freddy angry, and he didn't ask her why she was angry, why she hated and ashamed, didn't console her, didn't ask her how it happened, turned and ran to the tavern they used to go to.

Freddie forgave Hester at Hester's begging.

William and Freddy, these two men, one is a well-known judge in the eyes of others, and the other is a hero in the war, but either unconditionally obey the authority (mother) in love, or only avoid responsibility.

So, even when Freddy returned to Hester, the incompatibility between the two continued to emerge. When we watched the exhibition together, Freddy didn’t understand art, and he didn’t want to. He argued with Hester. When it came to rent, Freddy didn’t have a job, so he had no income, so he could only rely on Hester’s ration. Rent, and he also started not going home...

Hester's husband William tried to keep her, but Hester chose to stay by Freddy's side, knowing that there would be no result. Hester single-handedly maintained this fruitless relationship.

William gave her dullness and depression, Freddy gave her passion and turmoil.

In the circle formed by the relationship between the two, no segment is complete.

The film also places the romance in the context of war.

Let's take a look. The background of the story is London around 1950. The Second World War ended for a while, but people still haven't come out of the shadow of the war. Freddy was a pilot in the British Air Force. Freddy said the battle for Britain was both exciting and terrifying, and Hester felt the same way.

This is doomed to Freddy can not bear the long-term dull life.

"His life stopped in 1940."

From his relationship with Hester, Freddy has become a hollow man.

"Zero minus zero is still zero".

All his life stopped in that war. The essence of war is bombing and running away. People in war either die or go crazy. At Freddy, everything goes that way. Although it has been nearly ten years since the war, Freddy has been in the description and memory of that war, which is his honor and his incurable wound. This injury made him unable to forget the past, nor to start a new life and continue a relationship.

This is the alienation of man by war.

03

Here, I would like to mention a movie I like very much - "Our Fathers", the alienation of people by war can be said to be more profound in this movie.

There is a clip in the film. The Ukrainian auxiliary police took a group of Jews away. Among the crowd was a little girl under ten years old. Seeing this scene, Fried was overwhelmed with sympathy and pleaded with the auxiliary police, hoping that he would let him go. The little girl, the Ukrainian auxiliary police promised and gave the little girl a piece of candy. When the little girl turned around happily and left, the auxiliary police shot her.

This made Fried realize how human beings are distorted and alienated in war.

Therefore, Hester, who felt no value and hope in marriage, wanted to find a new self from Freddy. She put her hope of redemption on this relationship and Freddy. Leddy is a love incompetent person.

She is humble, begging, and can only go from disappointment to despair.

This can't help but raise a question: Why does Hester hold on to such a relationship, knowing that Freddie is incapable of love?

If the war alienated Freddy, Hester was also slowly alienated in the repressed marriage. In such a life, she lost her vitality at a young age. Therefore, as long as there is a little sunshine and freedom, even if it is a little gap, she will try her best to get close. Because she felt like she was herself.

But when she and Freddie committed suicide while still in love, she explained that their relationship didn't give her a sense of security. This loveless woman, although realizing that this seems to be going from one extreme to the other, still wants to choose to continue. Hester is unable to return to the family, and new love Freddy begins to tire of the relationship.

Facts have proved that two people just love each other can not get to the end.

Finally, the landlord said a sentence, perhaps giving the appearance of true love: "When he wets the bed, wipe his ass and change the sheets to maintain his dignity. So that the two can go on. Suicide, no one deserves it."

In the end, Freddie, the man who could not get out of the war, left Hester.

It was the most right thing Freddy did, and it was all over.

This story begins with death and ends with life.

This time, Hester didn't get out of hand, and she parted with him calmly. Freddy left with the suitcase, and Hester opened the curtains. Outside, the world was still there, and the children were playing.

  • Freddie Page: Let me give you a case: Jack loves Jill, Jill loves Jack. But Jack doesn't love Jill in the same way. Jack never asked to be loved.
