Betrayal and Optimism

Well, first of all I have to state that I haven't read the original Count of Monte Cristo, so all my statements are based on the movie I watched.

When watching The Count of New Monte Cristo, I will unconsciously think of the Shawshank redemption. Both films involve prison escapes, and they are both digging holes (saying that this kind of prison escape has become more and more popular recently...). But the protagonists are very different. Apart from being smart, there is basically nothing in common in their personalities.
The Shawshank Redemption is a story about redemption, and Andy in the film is like a saint. He used his belief-Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies, to redeem many people in Shawshank Prison who had lost their desire for freedom due to imprisonment, and at the same time, he also redeemed himself. The Count of Monte Cristo is more about revenge. The protagonist Edmund said when he killed Fernando at the end, I am a count, not a saint, so he will say in pain when facing his ex-fiancée Mercedes You once loved me, don't take away my hatred, I only have hatred.
What shocked me the most about the Count of Monte Cristo was not his subsequent vengeance, but the suffering he had endured. Like I was watching Shawshank, I asked myself, what if I had the same disaster?
Speaking of someone watching a movie in the kitchen while eating their own instant noodles (which was pretty successful this time, oh yeah), I even watched Edmund betrayed by his best friend Fernando. Forgot to eat (…). I can endure all disasters, but I cannot endure the betrayal of my friends. Edmund thinks of his best friend at the most critical moment, and when he is very embarrassed to ask Fernando for help, even saying I hope I won't cause you any trouble, he learns from his mouth All his own disasters stemmed from his betrayal. What aggravating this is, the friend you thought of at the most critical moment turned out to be a betrayal, and all the friendships in the past turned into the biggest joke in the world in an instant. It turned out that the one who wanted you to die the most turned out to be what you once thought. best friend. Next, the two fought in the room. Edmund, who was hit hard, was obviously not Fernando's opponent. In the room shrouded in darkness, he kept getting knocked down. This knockdown was more emotional. Collapse, we were still best friends just now, the best, why, why did you betray me, why.
Betrayal is the most terrifying thing in the world, and when the plot is serious, it can even make people lose hope for the future. Later in the film, Edmund meets Jacob, who is willing to serve him forever. Actually I always thought he would kill Jacob at some point, especially after he found the treasure left by the priest, Jacob dangling in front of him with the golden crown, Edmund watched without saying a word With him, I thought he would kill Jacob at this time, when he got rich. After all, after suffering such a big betrayal, if he can continue to trust people unconditionally, it seems unlikely to me. But he didn't, and in the end, Jacob was still his faithful servant, friend. He didn't lose faith in the world with hatred, just as Andy didn't get imprisoned and tortured until he lost hope.
This may all belong to a certain sense of optimism. Andy's optimism stems from his thirst for freedom and hope, while Edmund may just stem from his instinct. Sometimes I think that all emotions are just Whether it comes from interests is also considered an unspoken rule in this world. When faced with the temptation of vital interests, will all emotions be just blank? When, like Edmund, we face chests of gold, and are fully capable of killing our only companion, what choices do we make?
Sharing the blessings and sharing the burdens, this is the oath that Chinese people always make when they worship the handlebars. Blessings and sharing are put first, in the face of temptation, if you can have the courage to share with friends, then you are a true friend.
Now, I have not really stepped into the society. God bless me, I can always have the courage to trust friends like Edmund, and of course, I have to bless me to have people like Jacob who can give me absolute trust.

In the end, I decided to read the original, above.

As a remake of a famous novel, this film made me concentrate for two hours, enough!

Destroyed the great novel of Alexandre Dumas alive! Edmund, the main character, has become rude and stupid, and hopelessly stupid. Although the male protagonist in the original work also has the halo of pig's feet, the male protagonist in the movie version is completely golden finger! I have absolutely no sympathy for this Edmund, and I think such a foolish idiot deserves to be put in jail!

The Count of Monte Cristo quotes

  • Mercedes: I know what you want, Fernand.

    Fernand: You do?

Mercedes: Remember when we were kids and Edmond got that whistle for his birthday, and you got a pony? You were so mad that Edmond was happier with his whistle than you were with your pony. And I'm not going to be your next whistle.

  • Edmond: So you were in Napoleon's army.

Abbe Faria: We had such dreams then. However, one night... my regiment ran down a band of guerillas, who ran into a church for sanctuary. I was ordered to burn down the church with them inside it.

    Edmond: Did you?

Abbe Faria: To my everlasting shame, I did.
