"Rest Stop" - a unique road horror film

Although the ketchup concentration of "Rest Stop" is too light for a B-rated film, this does not prevent me from appreciating this film.
At first glance, "Rest Stop" doesn't explain the mad motives of the killers and the perverted family and the source of their magical abilities, which seems disorganized. ANYWAY, this film seems to have no intention of explaining why there is a group of demons on California's suburban highways that seem to be from hell. The film is more focused -- and that's what I admire about it -- on the terrifying atmosphere of despair, with a touching warmth. And this kind of warmth further aggravates the horror of the film.
When the officer was mortally wounded after being hit by a murderous yellow truck, his confession was almost tear-jerking. A police officer full of integrity, a responsible husband, and a loving father, but the second day after his son's birthday, let the audience's sense of hatred for murderers soar; and in the film The unswerving love of a pair of lovers is even more touching. Whether it's the male protagonist's confession of persuading the female protagonist to create the world with him, or his affectionate "I'm sorry, I love you" before his tongue is cut off, these are scenes that are enough to move Tie Shixin's heart. As for the heroine finally killing Ai Lang by mistake, it really pushes the tragedy of love caused by the accident to a climax.
Generally speaking, this kind of travel-style American B-level horror film always has a specific set of routines-a group of young American youths go out on an outing in a hurry. There are inevitably two couples among them, one is wild and bold, and is an important role in showing off the beauty in the film; the other is a little green, but it is the most important protagonist. There are also foul-mouthed bastards who don't care about anything. After they let loose for a while, they gradually found themselves in a horror paradise. The young people take turns dying, and finally the hero sacrifices heroically in order to leave a chance for the heroine (or the hero and heroine work together to escape the danger). But there are often small plots after "escape" suggesting that in fact she (they) are still under the control of death.
However, "Rest Stop" looks different. First of all, the young couple in the film is not boring. Although they also have some quarrels and some unconventional ones, they are better than the rotten combination of "traditional" B-movies in that they really love each other. Such a young, sunny and loving couple died tragically at the hands of a murderer, and the intensity of the tragedy naturally increased. Compared to other horror movie characters who almost wish they were dead at first glance, they are definitely far more endearing than the latter; secondly, the film has almost a handful of actors, and even those typical vases are omitted. The protagonist is immediately at stake in the early part of the film, which is innovative compared to other horror films that describe the absurd actions of the characters before their deaths; again, the film has a heavier psychological weight than road horror films. description. Including the heroine's chewing on the good taste of love in the past, the police officer's remorse for scolding his son the night before, and the victim's reflection on his own destiny in 1971, the whole film has a literary flavor; finally, the use of music in the film is quite thoughtful. It's not just weird music, not just rock music that is commonplace in horror movies, but also clear and lyrical love songs. This love song is not as deliberate as some films deliberately use lyrical tunes to create contrast, but it is integrated with the picture, expressing the long-lasting affection it should have.
Not enough cults, but a lot of warmth, "Rest Stop" has such a special flavor that makes it unique from other horror films. Friends who like to watch plasma may be dismissive of its restrained use of plasma, and friends who like to get to the bottom of it may sneer at the logic of the film. But if you look at it from another angle and experience the real joys, sorrows and sorrows of several victims in the film, you may be able to discover another kind of horror that a happy life is destroyed in an instant.

  • Deacon: You never saw anybody die before?

  • Deacon: When I was training for the service, my commanding officer, he gave us a little tip. He had seen a lot of guys eat the shit sandwich, you know? He told me, he said: "Son, if you ever get shot out there, you think it hurts like hell." He said, "When it don't hurt so bad, that's when you're not gonna make it."
