Adapted from the original work of Fu Aosi

If you first read Fu Aosi's original book and then watch the movie, it is not a perfect adaptation in all fairness. The movie only captures the external plot, and the inner mental journey of the two protagonists cannot be fully presented in the movie (the movie only starts from the perspective of the male protagonist), This is the reason why Fu Aosi's original book is wonderful; but this movie also has a suspenseful thriller that the original book lacks. If you haven't read the book, you will be deeply attracted by the atmosphere created by William Wheeler, and you will watch the end.
All in all, The Collector's novels and films have complementary effects, and both are recommended for everyone to enjoy.
The outstanding performance of the two actors, especially the male lead Terence Stamp, is really impressive and is one of the icons that swayed England in the 1960s. This film is a rare and heterogeneous work by William Wheeler. Although it did not win any important awards at the Oscars, it is very rare (the same film) to include the best actor and actress of the current Cannes Film Festival.

(Note: Many people rated it as "cultivating desire in a forbidden room", which is very strange and will mislead people into thinking that this is a perverted Japanese AV film! This 1965 old film is described as "cultivating desire in a forbidden room", Rather, it is more appropriate to say that it is a film that "explores the despair and fear that cannot be communicated between people", although......the number of words is large! The above is purely personal opinion.)

To be honest, at the beginning, my heart was towards the male protagonist. Even if he broke his promise to let the female lead home on the last day, he didn't do it. I can understand it. Even the heroine died unfortunately, the hero is the murderer, I don't hate him so much. It wasn't until the last second - he was back on the road just to catch the "thankful" butterfly - that I woke up - this is a pure-blooded pervert! Movies of the past have a lot of flavor.

Restraining anger, restraining desire. Maybe the male protagonist wants more than simple love, but a kind of respect. So he would treat a prisoner with such respect. (knocks, pulls chairs...) Cannes, very rarely, awards the best actor or actress award to the same movie. William Wheeler, actor's Bole.
