Don't dare to speak casually, because God may be watching

Another story about religion and belief, the director seems to have a lot to say and a lot of emotions to express. So when we watch this movie, we always have no idea what to say. Of course, I can't rule out the reason why I am stupid. The hypnotic index is quite high. Maybe such a profound theme is not suitable for such a gloomy style. After all, people need to watch the movie, and the constant fights between the eyelids really can't be particularly devoted.
I still like some of the little plots in it. I won't discuss the way of expression first. At least the director has realized some of the true meaning of religion. One detail I remember very well, Jack asked the pastor what he should do (he was seduced by a woman), the pastor said you have to obey the will of God, and God will always appear in unexpected ways and tell you his will. I think maybe Norton is God in the movie, or maybe he's the most obvious God character who doesn't listen and tells Jack about life, soul, and eternity. Especially at the end of the movie, Norton looked at Jack's unbearable panting, with a certain kind of pity and tenderness in his eyes, and then disappeared into the night, making me have to doubt that he said that God is the incarnation of Jack's side.
As for Jack's wife, I think she may also be God's special envoy. At the beginning of the movie, she is going to run away from home, and she doesn't want to be controlled by Jack. And maybe this is a sacred metaphor, telling people not to try to be their own master, there will always be a force watching you and admonishing you through various metaphors, but as for how you choose, it is entirely up to you. The doors of heaven and hell are open for you.
Whether you believe in God or not, we all live in the kingdom of God, and God is always there for you. The difference between believing and unbelieving lies in the bottom line of our hearts, one is given by God and the other is set by ourselves. God's bottom line is unquestionable, but one's own bottom line can be compromised at any time, and sin may be brewing unknowingly in these compromises. Living humbly may be the most conservative faith.

    Young Madylyn: Look at me.

    Young Jack: Hmm?

Young Madylyn: I'm not standing for this.

    Young Jack: Say what?

Young Madylyn: You keep my soul in a dungeon. I'm leaving.

Young Jack: [runs up the stairs, grabs his daughter out of bed, and holds her out the window] If you leave me, I'll throw her.

  • Stone: [about parole] Don't get me wrong, I want to be out. But I don't want to wrestle with the same shit if I'm out, and I don't want to keep this feeling if I'm in.
