Almost everyone wants to confirm what they need from Garth Hopper, the priest confirms the faith, the professor confirms the logic, the earl confirms the aristocratic style, and even the results of his autopsy are the surprises of the humble and ridiculous little secretary. People who think they understand this "noble barbarian" actually justify their lack of understanding of themselves. For Herbert, living in such a self-righteous world is better than living in the freedom that comes from a cramped room.
However, the simple children and simple farmers and peasants still retain the human innocence of Hober. Although they are illiterate and have not been to the beaches of Greece, they are patient, compassionate and sympathetic. This gave me one last ray of comfort.
