La stanza del figlio (2001)

The film won the Palme d'Or at the 54th Cannes Film Festival in 2001.

The film tells the story of a family before and after the death of their son. There is an ordinary family in Italy. The father is a psychiatrist and the mother is an office worker. The two children go to school separately. The whole family lives happily. One day, the principal found his father and told him that the school suspected that his son had stolen the school's shells. Everyone in the family thought it was not the son who did it, but the father went to find out what happened. After the incident, the son spent a long time with his father after the whole family came to watch his tennis match. Afterwards, the son told his mother that he stole the shells. The son just wanted to make a joke, but the shell was damaged, so he dared not admit it, and because he was very happy with his father, he did not tell his father about it. A weekend a few days later, the father planned to go for a run with his son, but he had to go to the patient because of a patient's request. When the father returned, he learned that his son had drowned while diving. The death of my son has grieved my whole family and my friends. My daughter's life has changed, and so has my parents' life. For a while, the father was out of work and resented the patients he went to see that weekend. When the mother received the letter, she accidentally discovered that her son had a girlfriend. So the mother wanted to contact her, but the father wanted to write to the girl. But the father couldn't finish writing the letter to the girl, and the mother suddenly called the girl and told her the sad news of her son's death. After thinking about it, my father decided to stop working and refer the patient to other doctors. A few days later, the girl came to the house, and she showed her parents a photo of her son's room. In the end, the parents and daughter drove the girl and her friends away, while the whole family strolled by the sea.

This is a very simple movie, the content and theme of the movie is a feeling: so painful, so sad! Through the death of his son, the film shows the sadness of every member of a happy and ordinary family over the loss of a loved one, nothing more. The film does not express any complex themes, but just shows a painful scene! Such a straightforward film without connotation can win the Palme d'Or, hey, I can't figure it out!

I don't know if it's because the judges at the Cannes Film Festival are insane, or if my understanding is not enough, this movie really can't be called excellent. First of all, the content of the movie is not great. The film spends a lot of time describing the story of his son stealing shells, but what does this story have to do with diving to death? Is it implying to the audience that the son was murdered, and the murderer was the classmate who saw the son stealing the shells? The film also spends part of its time describing the psychiatrist's work and the patient's symptoms, which also has nothing to do with his son's death. Does it matter what the patient dreams about? Do you have to describe it one by one? Second, there is nothing in the film other than showing people's sadness. This makes me very puzzled. Of course, parents and family members will be sad when the son dies. Does this need to be described over and over again in a movie? In addition to being sad, should you describe the mental state of your family members? But this film doesn't, except that the father doesn't want to work and fights with his daughter when they play basketball, there is no other content in the film. Third, in the story, the story of the son's girlfriend is also inconsistent with the theme. The death of the son can be sad, but whether there is a girlfriend will be equally sad, why should you join such a role? In short, the film is not short, but there are only a handful of valuable content. Except for the crying of parents and daughters and a slight change in the family's life, the film has no meaningful content at all! ]

Filming is more mediocre. Whether it is structure, rhythm, or pictures, music, or lighting, color, there is nothing outstanding in these aspects. In addition, there are still some problems with film editing. For example, before the story of a certain paragraph is finished, the picture suddenly changes to the next scene, and there is no transition at all, which makes the plot connection very rigid. In short, after watching this film, it is hard to believe that it is an award-winning film. It is like the debut of a film layman, very rough.

The actors are mediocre. All the actors in the whole film are very life-like performances, and there is no too intense emotional expression, so it seems that this film is lifeless. This is probably what the editor wants to achieve! There are two actresses in the film, one is Laura Morante, who plays the mother, and the other is Jasmine Trinca, who plays the daughter. In the film, neither of them are very beautiful, hey, this can only be blamed on the simple style of the film.

in conclusion. This is a mediocre film with a simple plot and theme, and rough shooting. The Palme d'Or is probably because the judges are out of breath!

It can be seen from the three-minute short film in "Everyone Has His Movie" that Nanni Moretti is a very emotional director who can accurately control his emotions. It is not sensational and moving, and it is difficult to use words The emotions expressed are all contained in various details. At the end, the scene moves slowly into the distance. A family of three walks leisurely by the seaside, which is so healing. 2001 was also the year of Cannes.

For us, the pain of losing a loved one will never be understood until we have lost it too. The film is slow and seems too long, but when Dad stood in the crowd, frowning, and he was surrounded by laughter, I think I had a feeling in my heart that was born for him.
