1956 US "War and Peace"

It's impossible to fully bring out the spirit of an epic work in two hundred minutes. Compared with the original work, the content of this film, like Pierre's figure in the film, has shrunk dramatically. It is naturally thin and cannot bear the name "War and Peace", which the original work can hardly bear.
It feels like a crappy stage play, not only the special effects, it seems that even the performance of the actors failed to break through the United States of the last century, failed to return to the Tsarist Russia 200 years ago in the book, and failed to successfully hit the The greatness that is characteristic of earth-thinking life that transcends time.
It's just a rough remake of the book's plot, so condensed that it's basically uninteresting.
Personally, Hepburn is not like Natasha, and the actor who plays Elena (Helen) is simply too bad in appearance.

War and Peace quotes

  • Prince Bolkonsky: You're over thirty! By the time a man's over thirty, life should be sad, meaningless and hopeless!

  • Pierre Bezukhov: [opens the bedroom drapes, while his spoiled wife sleeps on] Come on, Helene! We've got lots to do if we want to leave for the country.

Helene Kuragina: [very sleepy] Oh Pierre, it's so early!

[he kisses her, and she gets a crafty look on her face]

Helene Kuragina: Besides, it's so boring in the country.

Pierre Bezukhov: [Seriously] I'm sorry, my dear, but I promised those peasants I'd come and see them. They need a new hospital, and a new school, and many other things besides.

Helene Kuragina: [very spoiled] Well they can starve just as well without a school, and they can die just as well without a hospital!

    [catches herself, changes her tune]

Helene Kuragina: Pierre, why don't you go on without me? You can do what you have to do, and I'll come visit you in a few months time.

    [Slyly]

Helene Kuragina: You'll appreciate me so much more after a few months of sleeping alone.
