Conjecture: The dome is God's way of protecting the town, because of what Joe and the girl say during the belladonna episode "The pink stars will fall...." It's not surprising that a meteorite will hit the earth in the near future. The dome will protect this group of people, but before that, the people in the dome will be tested, and individual people will be eliminated and eliminated in order to achieve purification. It is also a heart-washing and replacement of God or others for the expanding earth.
