Because of Woody Allen, I fell in love with the city of Rome (a film review I wrote three years ago)

Speaking of Woody Allen, my first reaction was that Juno's good friend Leah in the movie "Juno" couldn't help sighing when discussing with the teacher "I love Woody Allen! Haha~~" I still haven't seen this little old man 's film. After watching "Midnight in Barcelona", I remembered Scarlett Johansson's beautiful face, but the film was not very impressive.

The old man probably wanted to shoot a series of city tours, and then launched "Midnight in Paris". Now this film is called "Love in Rome". The news that I learned a year ago was "Ten Days of Pop", but obviously the current name is It is more in line with the positioning of a comedy film. A little bit of literature and art, a little bit of warmth, and some Wu's seasonings with just the right firepower have contributed to a plate of afternoon tea-like snacks, rich and varied but not greasy, just fed my happy desire and fun.

I originally watched it for Ellen and Jesse, who are the leading independent filmmakers, but the old man seems to have only given them part of the lead role. Ellen plays Monica, a young actor who travels to Rome to find her friend Sally and Sally's boyfriend Jack (Jesse Eisenberg). Because Sally is well aware of the charm of a good friend, she has repeatedly mentioned to Jack that Monica is beautiful, funny and sexy since before she arrived. In anticipation, Jack unknowingly talks to Monica little by little, accompanies her to visit Rome, fights with himself at any time, and tries to make himself resist her attraction. But Monica is such a feeling-first and hedonistic person that Jack got laid in the end. Or that the magnetic field between them due to curiosity is too strong, and a romantic "adventure" happened in Rome, just like in the movie, just like they all expected. Also as I expected. Another familiar big name is Penelope Cruz, who actually subverted her image as Ana, a prostitute. In fact, it was expected, otherwise the hot figure under the red dress would be wasted. By accident, she entered the room of the newlyweds who were on vacation in Rome, and was very dedicated to serving the man. At this time, the wife had already gone out to do modeling. Later, he ran into a movie star he admired in his early years and was almost tricked into bed by a wretched idol; the man took Ana, who pretended to be his wife Millie, to have dinner with relatives, and then I actually found out that my wife is with the star. The funniest part is that Ana's clothes are considered too revealing by everyone; The most incredible thing is that this man was trained by Ana for free, and his wife was in the hotel ONS with the praise of the robber. All these dramatic plots seem impossible, but old man Woody made it staged in Rome, a place that is characterized as magical.

Then let's talk about the part where the old man appeared in person. He came up and really played the role of the finale. He was an unusual old urchin from the chatter when the plane was bumping. The highlight is the part of putting the bathroom on the stage to sing the opera, which is simply the pinnacle, Wu's original. The expression on the face of the opera singer when he was singing seriously made me laugh, and when he started to shower and picked up the brush to sing, he was suddenly very serious. Does Woody also like British humor? In serious occasions, you have to come up with a little bit of a serious joke, and in a serious place, you have to add some seriousness. When others were suspiciously looking at the surrounding environment, he seemed to be able to control the overall situation with ease, and said confidently: "You can't imagine my creativity, and the effect is unexpectedly good!" The cute old man is acceptable in my opinion. After all, it is a movie. Although it has broken through some of the original cognition, it is amazing and worthy of admiration to be able to do whatever you want without breaking the rules.

After knowingly laughing, I sighed at the dramatic tension of the film. Every shot is orange, warm, romantic and diverse. Does choosing Rome, a city that seems to embrace all kinds of stories, also reflect Woody's attitude towards life? From "Love in Rome", it seems that everyone will find a little bit of their own life, maybe they have met someone else's high-quality boyfriend, maybe they have found that their idols are not as good as a robber and more like a man, maybe by accident. Acting in a play with a stranger, or maybe like Woody in the film, he insists on his own obsession. This kind of bridge is not exactly the same, but the meaning is clear. We saw To Rome With Love, our own life is full of love, but all the stories in the world were chosen by Woody For a while, the microcosm is in the city of Rome. If we look at all kinds of strange things with tolerance, don't judge and take it as a whole comedy. Then life is actually like this, like a comedy, happy every day like a cute lunatic, it's actually pretty good . And I think Woody Allen is really an interesting guy. A cool guy.

PS As usual, my biggest surprise came from Elaine Page and Jesse Eisenberg, who I admired and liked so much. I was looking forward to their first rivalry for almost a year. The perfect collision of temperament between Sister Yu and Geek, or Sister Yu is better. Now I still remember Jesse's natural stunned expression for a few minutes when he saw Ellen, whom he had a crush on...hahahaha. Sister Yu just left like that, and it seems that they didn't have a good enough ending for their story. As a JE party NC fan who shouts "Together!" every day, I strongly request to make a sequel of them alone!

To Rome with Love quotes

  • Jack: It's incredible that the Colosseum is still standing after thousands of years. You know, Sally and I have to re-tile the bathroom every six months.

  • Monica: I call that futile feeling, Ozymandias Melancholia.
