In 1947, Sol Heyerdahl and five friends set out from Peru, South America, and took a raft 101 days and 4,900 miles to the Polynesian Islands in the South Pacific, creating a miracle in the history of human navigation. He wanted to prove that the Peruvians in ancient times 1,400 years ago settled in Polynesia by crossing the Pacific Ocean on this rudimentary raft. Heyerdahl wrote this arduous resume into a book, which was translated into more than 60 languages around the world, and the documentary won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 1952. He is also known as "the most famous Norwegian in the world". ". However, at the beginning of the story, his idea was ridiculed by everyone.

What does the director
say about the film?
The life of legendary explorer Heyerdahl and the true story of his 1947 journey across the Pacific on an improvised raft. In other words, it's a story about never giving up on chasing your dreams.
The inspiration for Lonely Ocean?
We both grew up in a small town in southern Norway called Sandfijord. We have never pursued anything other than movies, and have never lived any other way of life. But when we were kids, the story of "The Raft of the Ocean" inspired us to chase our dreams, no matter how far-fetched, and never give up. We hope this film inspires people to take risks as well. Go conquer the Matterhorn, sail Cuba, drive Route 66, whatever it is, follow your dreams.
The biggest difficulty you encountered during the preparation process?
There were many difficulties, and it was a mess at first. It's the most complex filmmaking process we've ever been through, and luckily, there are a lot of amazing people around us.
Who was influenced by the shooting process?
Jaws, of course, is one of the greatest movies of all time. We are constantly looking for inspiration from the movies of the 80s and 90s. In our opinion, those years were the golden age of cinema.

If the young Pi is magical, then this movie is completely realistic. The unarmed shark slaying section is frightening. This journey may be lacking in some strong winds and waves, but every accident occurs without exception. Let me indulge in the ever-changing charm of the ocean. In this life, I can't be alone in the ocean, but the desire to go to the sea is always there.

Herman these are my two fantastic radio operators: Torstein. War Hero, nerves of asbestos. As far as we know, he has only two weaknesses: whiskey and women - Knut Haugland, also a war hero, and I know Knut hates me for saying it, but I must be allowed to call him a legend. That is what you are, Knut - Erik Hesselberg...

    Erik Hesselberg: [ironic] No legend.

Thor Heyerdahl: ...but you have saved my life. Erik and I grew up together in Larvik. Erik has one unique skill that we are going to appreciate. Erik has been at sea before. I'm sure you have some questions...

Erik Hesselberg: [Walking toward Thor] Maybe I should introduce you first. This is Thor. A pompous, self-centered weirdo, but a very good leader. And because he is, we are about to do what Tiki did 1500 years ago. We are going to...

Thor Heyerdahl: We will build a raft.

    Erik Hesselberg: And...

Thor Heyerdahl: [laughling] And drift into the sunset.

Thor Heyerdahl: [ironic] You're sitting on it.

  • Thor Heyerdahl: [Radiotyping to mainland] Early man did not see the oceans as a barrier but rather as a means of communication. This is science that can not be done behind a desk or by a committee. That a 1500 year old civilization. Possessed maritime and navigational skills to successfully maneuver a balsa wood raft over 5,000 miles. We are using the same stars as they did.
