Max Perkins, a great supporting role

I never thought that this book could be turned into a movie. There are so many great writers that Max helped to achieve, and each of them has their own distinct personalities, subjects they are good at, and personal lives and families that are not very smooth. The movie selects some stories from the middle and later parts of the book, retaining the more intense character Woolf and the more lifelike Fitzgerald and others, as well as some interesting small plots. The office and office lights where Max stayed all year round were restored very well.

The counterattack of the man behind the masterpiece of marrying a man. Except for Jude Law's tilted head, it can't be regarded as corrupt. The team is full of powerful actors, Jude Law is a little too hard, and I like Fitzgerald played by Guy Pierce the most.

Very vulgar adaptation, mediocre camera language, exaggerated performance (don't talk about drama), a true story, but can't feel the authenticity of any character. Even though the need for popularization can be understood, what attracts and respects me in this industry is definitely not the power relations and growth education extracted from this film, but precisely the opposite of them.

Maxwell Evarts Perkins: Mr. Wolfe, we intend to publish your book.

Thomas Wolfe: [looks at him in disbelief] Ha!

Maxwell Evarts Perkins: If that is acceptable to you.

  • Thomas Wolfe: [to Max Perkins] Until I met you I never had a friend.
