It's a movie worth watching. After watching it, I have some understanding of the living environment of women or widows in India. At the beginning of the film, the point of view is a little widow, only seven or eight years old, because her husband died, she has to live in a widow's home all her life. Then she met the beautiful heroine. On the surface, the heroine didn't talk much with others, and she was very cold and withdrawn. The development of the following series of stories, the appearance of the male protagonist, falling in love, working hard together, etc., all have small details telling us what the lives and conditions of the widows are like. Some people are still imagining the moment when they get married, because it may be the happiest time of her life. In the end, the heroine finally broke through the shackles bravely and went home with the hero. However, she found that the father of the hero was someone she had served. At that moment, she was desperate, and she devoted herself to Moon River. This is undoubtedly a movie with a tragic ending, but at the end, when the male protagonist sends the little widow on the train to find a new life, there seems to be freedom and rebirth. This is really a movie I watched a long time ago, but I still remember some of the storylines, it's very impactful

This seems to be the only Asan piece I've ever seen where no one sings and dances... In the end, I'm very worried

The third part of Deepa Mehta's "Elements Trilogy" (Water). Much more mature than the previous two, but also more ornamental. Lisa Ray's beauty is of course needless to mention, the male protagonist is really handsome.

Water quotes

  • Kalyani: 'Learn to live like the lotus untouched by the filthy water it grows in.' Krishnaji said it in the Geeta

Narayana: Krishna was a god. Not everyone can live like the lotus flower.

    Kalyani: Yes, they can.

  • Shakuntala: Why are we widows sent here? There must be a reason for it.

Narayana: One less mouth to feed. Four saris saved, one bed, and a corner is saved in the family home. There is no other reason you are here. Disguised as religion, it's just about money.
