Completely reduced to a cult-style torture film

[Berlin Film Festival Watching] German director Fatih Akin once dominated the three major European film festivals that year, winning the Golden Bear Award for "Going Forward", winning the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes for "On the Other Side of Life", and winning the Grand Prix in Venice "The Kitchen of the Mind" won the best screenplay. In recent years, the themes he has photographed have been diversified, such as youth growth, neo-Nazism, etc., but there is a tendency to be less tired than before. This year's new work, which was shortlisted for the Berlin competition unit, was a mess, full of violent and bloody scenes of rape, torture, and dismemberment. Usually this kind of subject matter is the favorite of Cannes. I don’t think the reason why it falls to Berlin is that the film festival is not trying to take care of its own director’s face, but the more direct reason is that the quality of the film is worrying (Cannes often rejects well-known directors is not a precedent). The film presents the true story of a murderer who killed prostitutes in the 1970s at a glance. The male protagonist vividly interprets a dirty, lewd, shameless, and almost perverted serial killer. He enjoys drinking alcohol all day long, and takes prostitutes home to force them to have sex. After that, he violently kills and hides his corpse at home. . It would be convincing if the director could make this story half as good as Lars Von Trier's "This House Was Made by Me" with the same theme last year. Unfortunately, we can't find any entry for psychoanalysis in this character. Or an in-depth discussion of social environmental factors. All we know is that this murderer is an alcoholic and incompetent, living in the lower rungs of society, and knows nothing about other backgrounds. His parents' family situation, alcoholism and femicide are rarely explained. Similarly, the social environment factors are not well described, only the environment after World War II is known, and most of the key scenes are confined to a bar called "Golden Gloves", at most only restoring the atmosphere of the 1970s, clothing, art , The soundtrack is a plus. If Akin's previous "Out of thin air" still has half of the critical meaning of social reality, which makes people think, then this new work is completely reduced to a violent killing film (slasher) close to the cult style. The director is focused on depicting the details of strong taste. The details of murder and dismemberment and sexual abuse of women are everywhere, reaching an unsightly level, which constantly arouses the disgust and shock of the audience, but it also reflects Lars von Trier's work. How beautiful is "I Made This House".
