When can you sit around and watch a guy commit a crime with a smile on his face and not feel sorry for the person he hurts in the slightest? Have seen a lot of heist movies and often feel sorry for the victims how dangerous their situation is . It's easier to watch if the hero or heroine of the film has good intentions, but I've never had an experience like The Old Man and the Gun. It's a movie that takes its time to tell a story, with few exciting moments, but it never feels like it's dragging on. It's an amazingly true story, and I'm sure everyone will have fun with it.
The Old Man and the Gun tells the story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford) after he escapes from prison. A man who is dying and just wants to do what makes him happy, robs a bank in the most polite way he can without hurting anyone, and almost always gets away with it. Forrest's character fits absolutely perfectly with the film's portrayal of him. Whether he's chasing at high speed through calm country songs or sitting in a diner chatting with a woman, it really is one of the most relaxing experiences I've ever seen in a movie.
Robert Redford has always been a likable figure on the screen. From his small roles in films such as Tiger and Leopard and Children of Sundance in his early years to now in films such as Pete's Dragon, he has always been charming. This is likely to be his last performance, and if that's the case, I'm sure he's doing a great job. I don't believe the film won't win any awards, nor really get that many nominations, but in terms of simply appreciating a character on screen, The Old Man and the Gun has everything you'd expect.
In the end, The Old Man and the Gun is the kind of movie that doesn't make people complain. It has a specific main line, and it sticks to that direction throughout. It tells the story of a wanted gentleman who robs a bank under the radar and finds true love, only to be constantly pursued by the police. If you're looking for a complicated cop and robber story then I'd suggest looking elsewhere, but if you just want to relax and have a good time in the movie, this is the perfect movie. The Old Man and the Gun is something I highly recommend.
