"The Colors of Comedy and the Way of Comedy"

Zeng Qian's

Coen brothers film became more realistic in "The Big Lebowski" (The Big Lebowski). The movement of the camera is no longer so complicated, it just becomes a bit more frequent. The rolling giant thorns in the opening film came from the desert of California to the illuminated Los Angeles, and accompanied by Sam Elliott’s narrative, it implies a myth about American success. The story is put into the myth. Maybe just to be able to laugh at it better. Under the bustling, how many hidden secrets are hidden in it: the lazy Governor (Jeffrey Bridges) is shopping in the supermarket in his pajamas. From this boring moment, he has to be portrayed as a hero Danger. Heroes fall from the sky, and Piff’s legend is just a subjective imagination.

For viewers, the more unpredictable the story, the better, and don’t even leave a thread in the transition. One million, one toe, one kidnapping, one scam. Fake millionaires, unemployed, female artists, pornographic publishers, and German gangsters are all participating. The suspense started from deliberate deception. The fake rich man Lebaoski used Bonnie’s departure to design a kidnapping case. So several groups, several groups, and related people all had to share the pie, but the governor was stunned. Caught in it by mistake. The elder Lebosky raised one million from the foundation, but he didn't know where it was in the end. And those German gangsters sacrificed a toe of their girlfriend for this. But after watching the whole movie, I realized that Walter was on the top of the mountain, on the coast, and the hug of Lord Governor was so strong in friendship.

Three poor ghosts, a bowling league game, the common hobby of the trio: bowling. The common topic of the trio: people pee on the carpet, which needs compensation. Comedy always has a comedy beginning and exciting coincidences. In Los Angeles, there is still a rich man with the same name as the Governor. The old Lebaoski played the image of a millionaire without flaws, he lived in a dream. But the dream of Lord Du is always so fragmented. He just enters and exits an uninhabited spiritual territory time and time again: following the flying carpet, walking down the stairs to the sky, and dancing with thirty-five dancers. That is He is playing the human harp in his dream. The appearance of Master Du is a bit like an old rock cannon who has not been mixed in Beijing for many years, with a smiley face that is already disabled and helpless. With tea in his hand and cigarette in his hand, Walter said something so nonsense, and in a way more like the rhythm of this movie, always so unhurried. Walter is extremely confident, but Duny seems inattentive. He doesn't seem to worry about anything except bowling in his mind. Occasionally inserting a sentence or two from Lord Governor and Walter in the conversation will only make his two friends become Not in a happy mood. The Steve Buscemi in the "Falling Dog" was just a melon here, and died of a heart attack inexplicably in the end. He participated in conversations and occasions that were irrelevant to him. How empty this Duny seemed. In addition to bowling, Duny only appears to be a lot no matter what he does. This character seems to have no influence on the development of the plot. This is actually just Cohen being too mean and even mocking the role of the character. The sense of comedy spontaneously arises, because only Duny is the only one who knows how to bowl well. Bowling is all the joy of life, and some people are amazing and funny fools.

Lord Governor, Walter, and Duny are out of touch with reality and have no real identity or status. It is difficult for them to get out of the past. Master Du always likes to wander around in his pajamas, and he is not too serious about himself, he is just maintaining a state of worthlessness. Walter was living in the shadow of the Vietnam War. When Donnie's heart attack occurred, Walter held him and said what made people laugh: "Hold on, you can do it, the helicopter is about to arrive." It seems that once the camera is caught. Shaking up, it seems that there are groups of Vietnamese soldiers around. At the end of the film, the Governor and Walter did not buy the cheapest urn, but instead put Duny’s ashes in a coffee can. Walter said insignificant remarks related to the Vietnam War and the waves Duny's ashes were scattered to the sea, but the sea breeze blew the ashes on Lord Du's face. Master Du’s face was covered with yellow dust, Master Du was wearing sunglasses, and we could not see his eyebrows. The five senses are missing, and there is numbness written on his face. He once sat on the toilet in such confusion, looking at the floor smashed by the bowling ball, his spirit was always in a dangerously tortured state. The carpet bothered him, and Bonnie bothered him in Lebaoski's house. The woman who painted her toenails green said to him, let me blow for you. He is about to enter a painful world.

Unfortunately for Lord Du, there is no woman. The governor was poor and owed rent. Master Governor was clever, nailing slats behind the door and putting on a bench, thinking that he could defend against danger. The only affair of Master Du was with the artist's daughter of the old Lebaoski, but it had nothing to do with love. The other party just wanted to use him to conceive, so as to complete a piece of work. Compared with the unlucky person, Jackie is the only unlucky person in the film, and he is impressive. He appeared in purple tights, domineering, arrogant, pedophile, and a sodomy. He always wanted to put his poor sense of superiority into other people's ass. The Governor is too face-to-face, he doesn't care about everything, even to Jackie's provocation, he feels that there is no need to refute it. The governor's car was stolen after he and Walter, who thought he was carrying an M16, went to deliver money. And the millions that were dropped have disappeared. In fact, no one knows where a million is. Lord Governor and Walter thought they had clues, yelled at the middle school student, and smashed the car. It seemed that the middle school student seemed more unlucky than adults. In the story, the relationships between the characters are very subtle and very specious. Cohen will not explain the fantasy events in the story, they just happen and make the viewer feel ridiculous.

The cowboy played by Sam Elliott has been acting as a storyteller. He tells us that myths always start like that, and comedies are always passed down from generation to generation. We always need some short-lived victories. In the bowling hall, Walter pointed his gun to his toe to cross the line, but Smoky, who wanted to score 8 points for himself, yelled, "Is the only one who cares about the rules here?" What are the rules? The rule is that the trader can always only give you zero points according to his wishes. Life is not perfect. I think it’s funny to remember that the neighbor’s car was inexplicably smashed last night. I think it’s a part of a comedy, in which a lonely person always performs too hard, wrong. Events happen to them or ours one after another, the body will eventually become unbearable, so a comedy is a necessary expression. The color of comedy is just colorful black, and the way of comedy is just camping in front of the fire, yelling and laughter are difficult to distinguish, always in perfect compliance with violence and fear.
