Think so much, just do it

The film is not particularly good, but the story of the protagonist is still worth watching. We always set a lot of restrictions on ourselves. We can't do this, and that can't be achieved. We dare not have dreams, dare not let go and fight hard. The protagonist's father was not optimistic since he was a child, and he even thought he was just a pile of shit, but he didn't think of himself that way. Although his life is very ordinary, he is only a reporter in a small theater, no one thinks he has a wonderful place, his boss does not believe that he is talented, but he does not view himself like that. He wants to prove himself, wants to tell the world that he has been there, wants people to know him. So he has to transform, he is not willing to be a reporter, he wants to perform, he wants to do a talk show. He didn't have the material, but he came into contact with homeless people who were talking rude silly jokes. He used his savings to listen to swear words, and then processed them by himself. He didn't care about the eyes and opinions of others. Take up all your savings, and if you don't have enough, go to your relatives to make a stubborn loan. He lives at the bottom, targeting the homeless market, targeting the vast black population, and targeting the ordinary people at the bottom like him. He is true to himself, not hypocritical, not ostentatious. No one could have imagined that his adaptation of the tramp story would be successful, but he succeeded. The people at the bottom can accept his works, even though they are swear words, but in those days, the people at the bottom liked this expression. He wanted to be famous and to prove himself. He found that movies could make a wider audience know him, so he started making movies. He doesn’t have a basic foundation. He invites past filmmakers to be his film directors. He invites school students to do free filming and invites his friends to play roles. The house, venue, costumes, props, personnel, everything is so. Unprofessional, but he did it. At first glance, his martial arts scenes were faint and rough. The passionate sex scene with the actress. He was not in good shape and had a big belly. He was very worried. Later, he and his friends thought of a way to make the passion scene funny. An unexpected highlight came out and everyone laughed. After overcoming various difficulties and finally bankrupted the filming, no one thought that his crude film would have a market, but he did not give up. No movie theater was willing to buy his film to show. He just looked for a theater to show it on his own and couldn't afford to pay. He just went to the street to promote it. In the end, the movie turned out to be a hot seller, and he succeeded again. So far, his success was accidental, and it seemed to be inevitable, because he was so firm from beginning to end, never thinking of giving up.

Dolemite Is My Name quotes

  • Rudy Ray Moore: [Speaking with the Bihari Brothers about them helping finance the production of "Dolemite" by giving up future royalties to his records] I'm going to bet on myself. Ain't nobody going to put me on the screen except for me, and everybody I talk to say they want to see a "Dolemite" movie.

Julius Bihari: Well, we understand. You're not supposed to make a movie for the five square blocks of people you know.

Rudy Ray Moore: [takes pause] Well... that's fine with me. 'Cause every city in America got those same five blocks. And those folks is going to love it!

  • Rudy Ray Moore: You know what they say brother - luck is where opportunity meets preparation.
