A corner of American politics

I finally finished watching the movie intermittently. The overall feeling is that this is an American film that does not have many ups and downs from the plot, nor does it have in-depth exploration or soul-questioning in the spirit, but from the perspective of political science, I still decided to hit four of this movie. star.
There are two lines running through the film: the president participates in the election, and the president starts a new relationship. In fact, more broadly, it is the contradiction between a person's political life and non-political life. And because this person happens to be the president of the United States, this contradiction has been pushed to the extreme, and it also reflects the operating process of American politics from the side.
After reading it, I am more impressed with a few details:
Because he is in the campaign stage, the president's rivals have violently attacked the president's personal new love life and questioned his personality. The president has remained silent because he believes that he has not made a mistake, so he should not make any response of himself to make the other party's slander legitimate.
The President’s girlfriend was blasted to have participated in protests and participated in the flag-burning parade. The presidential opponent questioned the president's patriotism. The president's response is the definition of freedom. Because the political principle of freedom is clearly defined in the U.S. Constitution, the president believes that American citizens should also have the freedom to burn the national flag. Of course, I think this response is sloppy. After all, value considerations cannot solve practical problems.
The president did not respond when he was vilified by his opponents, so several important members of his government kept pressing on him and even confronted him face to face. It is quite exciting to see this. After all, this is also a manifestation of democracy. The confrontation of ideas balances the conflict of ideas in the debate. Although everyone thinks about holding their own jobs, this consideration is not inconsistent with the overall situation, and even fits well, because in the premise of establishing a democratic system, there are assumptions about rational people.

The film about the line between the president and his girlfriend is also very interesting. Although from the emotional point of view, the two people can say that there is no earth-shattering twists and turns, and there is not much passion, but it is so easy to see the two people. The kind of contradiction reflected:
The job of the President's girlfriend is to lobby for the environmental protection group to pass a bill. However, this bill happens to be competing for votes with another bill that the President hopes to pass, so it has become a choice question. Of course, it's not as exaggerated as you die or die, just like the president retorted the opponent's attack at the end of the film, thus winning back the injured heart of his girlfriend who lost his job because of the failure of the environmental protection bill; in actual American reality, Emotion and morality have also been placed in a position of being properly paid attention to, so the limitations of rational people have also been recognized.
From a young perspective, the emotional world accepts the test of the real world is the other side reflected by this line. In love, when two people are independent and need each other, the relationship can be secure.

Maybe in the emotional dimension, or the film with less spiritual dimension is more suitable for me to talk about it casually, the judge just laugh and watch it haha~

The plot is a bit vulgar

In order to prepare for the English test, I listened to various T forums to use this movie to practice listening. As a result, I was not only deaf, but also blind. I will never do such stupid things in the future.

The American President quotes

  • [Sydney and President D'Astier were conversing in French during the state dinner]

President Andrew Shepherd: Sydney, you didn't dissolve our trade agreements, did you?

Sydney Ellen Wade: No, I just said we're sitting in this beautiful room, listening to the music of this wonderful orchestra, and I wondered why nobody was dancing.

President René Jean D'Astier: And I informed Miss Wade that in my country, a guest at the palace of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette would soon find their head in a guillotine if they made the impertinent gesture of dancing without so much as a by-your-leave from the King and the Queen.

    [laughs]

    A. J. MacInerney: I bet no one accused Louis of being soft on crime.

Sydney Ellen Wade: There's a lesson there, Mr. President.

President Andrew Shepherd: More beheadings at the White House!

  • President Andrew Shepherd: [in his bedroom] Do you know what your problem is?

Sydney Ellen Wade: What's my problem?

President Andrew Shepherd: Sex and nervousness.

Sydney Ellen Wade: Sex and nervousness is my problem?

President Andrew Shepherd: Yes. Last night when we were looking at those place settings in the Dish Room, I realized those place settings were provided by the first ladies. And I'll bet none of those first ladies were nervous about having sex with their President husbands. And do you know why?

Sydney Ellen Wade: No, but I'm sure you'll explain it to me.

President Andrew Shepherd: I will. Because they weren't Presidents when they first met them. That's not the case here.
