"God, why did you choose me? Why must I die?" Jesus asked God painfully.
The movie shows a Jesus with seven passions and human nature. He likes Mary. He is angry that the temple has become a vegetable market. He is afraid of death. He also doubts God's decision to choose him as the savior. Such a mortal Jesus is different from the divine Jesus in Pasolini’s "Matthew Gospel". The latter is not afraid of death, but firmly believes in God’s decision, without a trace of doubt. In comparison between the two, I personally feel that the former is more real, and people are not gods. Always bring mortal character, troubles, and weaknesses.
However, what people want to believe is not the mortal Jesus who is afraid of death, which is too cowardly, but the sacred Jesus, a myth that is not afraid of death and can be resurrected from death. Is the false myth worth believing?
The style of this movie is quite modern. It feels like watching a modern feature film. It is very different from the ancient sacred style of Pasolini's "Gospel of Matthew". Among them, the fatalistic/expected scene of Jesus resurrecting in front of the black hole is great. The dark cave triggers people's primitive fear. The hand suddenly coming from the lower right corner of the screen is too terrifying!
Finally, I found out that David Bowie, the rock chameleon, was acting as a Roman soldier.
