Insulted and damaged

The ancient Greek poet Pindar once complained that war is only interesting for those who have not experienced it. The lesser-known second half of this famous saying is: Anyone who has experienced it will be frightened when the war is approaching. The screenwriter and director of Fury seems to be adhering to the same anti-war philosophy, and decided to use movies to try to restore the real suffering of the war. Even if it does not cause post-war trauma, at least he should stay away from gunpowder and death, holding popcorn half-lying. Everyone in the soft chair slapped in the face.

Personal feelings about the film are actually very contradictory. One of the main reasons comes from the two parts before and after the film, which are also contradictory. Of course, the overall production level is very high (there is an uncle Peter who does not pick up bad films to do quality assurance), there are wonderful personal performances and group shows by the big names, the faithful restoration of the details, and the amazing visual effects. The plot is based on the growth and education of recruits Norman, and different types of tank operations are naturally interspersed with them, and the priorities are controlled appropriately. After the Fury tank set off to protect the Allied supply depot, it reluctantly walked towards the terminal. The ending seems to be somewhat deified and dramatic, making the film somewhat bleak, but it can be regarded as completing a few questions, letting the anger erupt for the last time.

Starting from the gray-blue sky at the beginning of the movie, accompanied by the chill of the piano and the murmur of the cello, the whole world immersed in the cold color took on a gloomy mood. If tragedy is about destroying beautiful things for you, the method of this film is to destroy almost everything for you without a trace of emotion. Allied forces, Nazis, comrades-in-arms, buildings, young people's original intentions, love that meets each other, and horses are all crushed into slag under the tracks of the tank. Compared with many works of the same World War II theme, this movie is more decisive in showing cruelty: corpses everywhere, heads shaved off by shrapnel, burning soldiers, remnants of bombing in the air, and baby soldiers who were killed. Switch quickly after death, leaving almost no room for emotional stagnation. Even a few literary dramas outside the battlefield must be torn apart and there is no warmth. Each of them, dead or surviving in battle, soldiers or civilians, could not escape the fate of being ravaged by the war.

1 Heroes

Recruit Norman, a clerk stuffed into a tank, is a perspective figure who leads the audience into this cruel world. This is the image that often appears in war films, the translation in "Saving Private Ryan", the supplementary soldiers and young officers in "Brothers Company", they are upright, simple, and stick to dogmatic and duny concepts of right and wrong, but they are in line with the creed of war. Out of place. Naturally, these people will eventually grow or twist in the blood to become a real warrior. And Collier, who is played by the beloved Uncle Pete, is the commander of the Tank Fury. This is the role he hates the Nazis again after "Inglourious Basterds", so that he naturally guessed him after the first scene of killing the Nazi officers. Do you want to cut your scalp again? Collier is a battle-tested veteran. From his nickname Wardaddy, he can see the leopard. He is cold-witted and bold, with a hint of cynicism. He is the most reliable commander on the battlefield. So Collier and Norman, veterans and rookies, mentors and students, leaders and subordinates, rely on this classic relationship to form a dramatic contradictory unity.

Other crew members of the Fury include: the Christian Bible, who likes to quote passages from the Bible, Gordo, who often bounces in Spanish, and Grady "Coon-Ass" with a look of scorn. These veterans, who were born and died with Collier, have very different personalities and a clear division of labor, which constitutes a unique ecology of noisy but tacit understanding of Fury. They have greatly enriched the relationship between the characters, but in essence, they are more like two sides with Collier, and they are all people who are needed for war into war. Precisely because of the habit of seeing life and death and insight into impermanence, the heroic spirit on the battlefield is projected into the doomsday carnival of Drunken Lord Grim in the short interval of the battle, and the psychological adaptation mechanism has turned numbness into the normal state. Morality collapsed like a ruined wall, and discipline and treaties had long been obscured by blood. So the execution of the damned fascist, the indulgence of alcohol and women, and the killing of wounded horses were either out of hatred or anger, or just for pleasure.

The secular personality represented by Norman and the audience, and the war personality represented by the Fury veterans entangled and collided, and their agitation reached its culmination on the cramped dining table of the small town's dwellings. Collier and Norman met the sisters who had taken refuge when they searched the houses. Norman was a young artist and Emma. The mentor Collier also pushed forward. It was a rare warmth scene, but the veterans came in to spoil the situation. Obviously, they were close relatives and comrades who had raised the knife and fell together, letting this kid enjoy the blessing without the brothers. Gordo told a chilling story. After an ambush, they killed all the German horses along the way, and finally concluded with a meaningful conclusion: what happened has already happened, and what should happen is still about to happen. There were no guns and kicks in this period of confrontation, but the air was tense, Grady's flirtatious provocation, Collier's failure to prestige, the girl's sobbing, and Norman's onset, seemed more breathtaking than the subsequent tank battles.

The newly issued instructions are timely to resolve this invisible conflict. A subsequent bombing directly obliterated Norman's short-term happiness. It can be considered that the recruit's anger tank was finally filled, and he was pushed onto the final Asura field without any concern. In the final decisive battle, all the personalities and emotions of the previous confrontation finally became one in the face of the SS Youth League. The bloodline broke through the previous depression. In the bloodbath, Norman finally officially integrated into the group of Rage, completed the last step of growth and survived under the protection of Collier. The tank veterans also completed their mission in a tragic and tragic way. .

2 Civilians and enemies

The common people who live and die and suffer are the most miserable every time. Even on the German side as the aggressor, in addition to the fanatical combatants, there are more civilians who are drifting along with the crowd. They fail to make a choice, but they have to bear the consequences of the choice. The background of this film is the latter part of World War II. Germany has already turned from offensive to defensive at the end of the Second World War. In this situation, the defensive army is ubiquitous and even among the citizens, making offensive and defensive warfare a nightmare for allied forces and ordinary citizens.

The film portrays this aspect quite deliberately, paying too much attention to cruelty. When the Allied troops entered the small town, the old man did not go home to hide, but wanted to be a guide, and he was shot in the head by himself. The Germans also ignored the friends and civilians during the artillery bombing, but the shells dramatically bypassed the Allied tanks and razed the house where the girl who had a close relationship with Norman lived. Regardless of the movie, these sacrifices are actually as real as the war, but they are forgotten faster than the soldiers who died in battle.

On the German side, the defenders and the Nazis were basically mortal fate, but even children were sent to the battlefield as a combat force. The few childish Nazi boy scouts killed by attacking Allied tanks with bazookas are only part of the shadow of the entire empire. In the German Ardennes counterattack, many eleven or twelve-year-old children were trained as soldiers to perform reconnaissance, sabotage, and assassination missions, and even pretended to ask Allied soldiers for candy and shoot them when they were not prepared.

The 300-member SS at the end of the film is more like a supplementary member of the Youth League based on its combat performance. Inexperienced in combat, weak in command, and charging forward without knowing to retreat, facing a solitary fort formed by a tank, there is no way to reflect the training of combat, so he had to arrange the corpse in a circle around the tank. Of course, the protagonist's aura is full of power, directly killing the enemy's combat ability and IQ. But judging from this battle, the Third Reich is indeed declining, and those who are loyal to the head of state have only one way to go.

3 Sherman The

Sherman tank is the star of World War II. It is equipped in large quantities in the Allied Forces and appeared on major battlefields. Although, as a non-military fan, I can’t grasp the achievements of each tank performance index at his fingertips, but I probably know that Sherman's battle loss rate in tank operations is indeed very high. Probably because of the large output, the main purpose is to support infantry. It has also made certain compromises in artillery attack power and armor. It often catches fire and explodes after being shot. Therefore, it is often seen in various film and television works and games of World War II. The Sherman tank became a target. Allied soldiers of World War II nicknamed Sherman's "Lonson lighter" because of "one hit", "burning grave" and "five-man incinerator", which shows the painful fate of the Sherman tank soldiers.

The Sherman tank in this film can be regarded as the absolute protagonist, especially the Fury under the command of Collier, from North Africa all the way to Germany, yellow sands wear golden armor, evasion rate and luck value are added to the top. Several battles in this film have also demonstrated various combat methods in place, such as joint infantry, city offense and defense, and tank battles. Of the Sherman tanks in the film, one was destroyed by anti-tank rockets, and three were destroyed by the German Tiger. It is a little regrettable to restore the Sherman crisp skin setting. Compared to the Tiger’s heavy artillery and heavy armor, Sherman is more disadvantaged as a medium tank. The general battle loss ratio in the battle between the two is 1:5 or 1:6. Excluding the one lost by the attack, Sherman was amazed by the three-to-one scene. In the end, the bloody battle narrowly won, losing two-thirds of its combat power. Failing to effectively use the slower rotation of the Tiger's turret to outflank, Collier's tactic may be slightly problematic, but it is also quite difficult. In the last battle, Sherman atypically used as a fortress to defend his position, and at the last moment of his service life, he served as a copper wall and iron wall for the soldiers.

Just imagine the limitations of human activities inside the tank, the mixture of bloody sweat and the smell of gasoline and gunpowder condensed in the dark and enclosed space, and the unknowable death that comes at any time, and this steel monster at the same time serves as a fortress to shelter fellow infantry. , I couldn't help but feel admiration from the heart for the Sherman tank and the pilots in it.

*

For me, who would want to hide behind a bunker when playing Call of Duty, this movie reinforces the fear of war. Whether it is the aggressor, the counterattack, or the innocent civilians involved, the original personality is being mocked and insulted, and the peaceful life is ruthlessly crushed by the historical chariot. Still, I want to thank those who stood up to defend the beautiful world. After all, they were tortured and distorted in their destiny to prevent this from spreading. This is painful and great, but hopefully the world no longer needs this way.
