This is a cruel street, a true epitome of the once superpower

When I watched this movie for the first time, I really couldn't stand it. In the dim bar, the reddish lights flicker from time to time, and the long slightly shaking shots are chaotic and messy characters and scene scheduling, noisy environmental sounds and character conversations are painful to the eardrums and brains, and the dull but dull for nearly two hours But there is no lack of narratives of bloody fights...This is the most true feeling I felt when I first encountered "Poor Streets".

▊Classic spicy comment

The movie "Poor Streets and Back Alleys" was released in 1973, and the story it tells certainly took place in the age when the United States was not independent, and this poor street and this back alley became the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. The epitome of society became a true portrayal of American society at that time.

The director of the film is Martin Scorsese. He grew up in the Italian neighborhoods of the United States . With such a very personal style of work that truly reproduces the historical state of the Italian neighborhoods , he tells us: the United States you never knew, It looks like this. Everyone is living hard in the afterglow of the setting sun, ready to welcome the fall of night.

I have never thought about it, perhaps you have never thought about it, the United States, the superpower of our world today, also had such a side: it was so cruel that it was nurtured by its land under its endless destruction. The people use the debauchery and unruly from their bloody bones to conceal the unbearable life of the people and make them strong. While suffering from the oppression of the Mafia and owing countless money, while still trying to save a few dollars to enjoy the weekend. Wandering in bars, swearing, smoking and drinking, gambling and picking up girls, or fighting, or avoiding squeeze and fighting, this is the composition of people's lives in the film.

In such a situation, people can not even call back to devoutly believe in my heart they are religious. The emptiness and doubt from the spirit will eventually cause a person to lose his soul, and this kind of spiritual strike is actually the same pain as the one from the body. Coupled with the physical injuries of being bullied and pressured on people , such as sudden violence and sudden shooting.

When I was confused many times, I would continue to try to rely on religion, but the arson jumped and failed. Under such a psychological and physical double blow, too many people find it difficult to gain a foothold in this society.

The richness of the story in the film lies in the fact that although the tone of the whole film is rather sad narrative, there is never less fun in life even in hardship. With the performance of each individual's distinctive personality, the story becomes interesting. Even the lids of the two trash cans can keep the two big men, Charlie and Johnny, having fun for a long time. The wine glasses are used as billiards and the bar is used as a table. Even Michael, who is always tough and threatening to demand debts, has a cute smile.

Halfway through the narrative of the film, the heroine Teresa finally appeared. Like all the characters , it came naturally, and then naturally had a relationship with the characters who had appeared in the story before.

The appearance of the heroine Teresa can be said to be one of the most important plot points of the film , and it also gives us a new understanding of the hero Charlie. He is no longer an ordinary serial person where many events in the film can happen, but has become a man who still has a sloppy underground romance with a woman who is thought to have a sick head in a situation where his life is really bad, and This underground affair may be sexual and unloving for Charlie. Because Charlie clearly understands that he can't be serious, he can't love.

When the film's narrative progressed to the last few minutes, it finally entered the most impactful plot in the plain narrative of the whole film. Driving in Tony's car at the bar, Charlie, Johnny, and Teresa were talking, laughing, and arguing, as if they had forgotten all the worries and worries. However, happiness is destined to be short-lived-they were shot by Michael.

The film stopped abruptly in the panic of the three wounded. After so many negotiations, hard work and struggles, the night they ushered in did not give them the peace they hoped for and deserved. However, in this huge city, this night is no different from too many normal nights. People close the windows as usual and wait for the arrival of a new day.

This is "Poor Streets", an American-Italian neighborhood half a century ago. It is cruel, indifferent, and ruthless. But this is this society, everything in it is truly in front of you, waiting for you to have various stories with them. It’s a story, and there will be joy and happiness at the end, just like Martin Scorsese conveyed to us in this "Poor Streets": Life will be difficult, but no matter how difficult life is, fun will never come. Will be absent.

After watching it, I just want to play GTA4 for a while...especially when I finally hit the fire hydrant and nourished the water....

In front of the stage, New York's bars and streets were lively, and behind the scenes, a whole old rock army took turns to fight. So nasty! Charlie is Mr White when he was young!

Mean Streets quotes

  • Oscar: Look Charlie, you're a good boy. Will you just tell your uncle that I have nothing. There is nothing to give him. No envelopes with cash inside, no checks, nothing.

    Charlie: That bad, huh?

Oscar: I can't make this week's payment and if this keeps up not next week's either.

Charlie: Not next week's either... listen... you tell that to Giovanni, not me.

Oscar: Listen, I should wrap up this place in a ribbon and hand it to him, you know that. I don't need this aggravation. I'm getting old.

Charlie: He'd rather have the loan payed, you know that.

  • Giovanni Cappa: This Johnny Boy is like your mister Groppi... a little crazy. It's nice you should help him out because of his family and our family but watch yourself... Don't spoil anything. His whole family has problems... his cousin, the girl who lives next door to you...

    Charlie: Teresa.

Giovanni Cappa: ...The one who's sick, right? In the head.

    Charlie: No, she's got epilepsy.

Giovanni Cappa: Yeah. That's what I said, sick in the head.
