Her smile destroys everything

Watching "DANCER IN DARK" in your house is the third time I have watched this film. The subtitles are not as good as my old version. The home version also translates every lyrics, including her most famous song "I have seen it all".
It is more than just a movie for me, it has run through my life for nearly a year. More or less, I can't deny Shama's influence on me. I can't deny how longing I am, but I am afraid of her face. Shama taught me that no matter what I face, always smile.
Whether it is happiness or cruelty; whether it is reality or illusion; whether it is light or death, the corners of her mouth will always rise, and she pursed her mouth slightly, smiling well, as if no one had ever hurt.
The murderous smile pierced the nerves.

The

first time I saw it was the night of the third year of high school. At that time, I would go to the living room barefoot every Saturday night, pick a movie on the dazzling DVD rack, close the curtains, wrap myself in the quilt, curl up in the corner of the sofa, and drink boiled water. Watch the dish. This whole set of procedures is even a bit like a religious ceremony.
So I asked for "DANCER IN DARK" once, because BJORK has always been a singer I like very much. BJORK is a fragile, timid, and shy woman. When she was 21, she divorced her husband and raised her son independently, taking care of her own career.
She said in an interview: "I hope people can unplug the phone line and turn on the stereo to listen to my CD.
Until the time is forgotten, the emotions are cooled, and the pain is said goodbye."
Watching this movie is indeed forgetting time to cool down the emotions, but not saying goodbye to the pain. It was a kind of despair of being immersed in ice water, a real and tangible sense of fear. Shama always has a charming smile. She loves musicals. She lives harder than anyone else, but she is on the edge of life and getting closer and closer to the darkness.
The man on the rails who liked her repeatedly asked, "You can't see it anymore, right?" So she began to fantasize and began to sing. She sings that I have watched enough, no matter how much it is greedy; a man sings but you have never seen a waterfall, she sings that I have seen water, and the waterfall is also water; the man said, but you have never seen your future husband and children, she Smile, impeccable.
The poor police officer, the drama teacher who once kissed her hair, and the once friendly landlady betrayed her one by one. The brightly colored illusions and the pale and feeble reality are always hurting the person who is most vulnerable.
Yes, we are very cunning, and our nature guides us how to hurt. It is this nature that made me burst into tears when I saw the last picture.

Second, the

second time was the summer vacation after the college entrance examination. At that time, everyone was busy eating scattered meals, feeling at a loss and sentimental. Later I saw a sentence in "Book City": Some things are not helpful even if they start to be missed before they are over.
One night, we went to the bar in Houhai with our two best girls, Nuan Nuan and Su, to fulfill our long-term agreement. It was eleven o'clock in the evening when I returned, and it happened that my home was closer to Houhai, so they moved into my home. Put a mat in the room. It was Su’s eighteenth birthday, and we were not sleepy, ready to watch a disc.
I played "DANCER IN DARK". Nuan Nuan was lying next to me. I held her hand, thinking of the bondage of our high school, thinking of the boy we all liked, thinking of the unpleasant entanglement of the three people together, thinking of our inexplicable harmony afterwards. Good and become each other's shoulders and support, thinking of our support all the way, finally survived to complete liberation.

Nuan Nuan also watched this film. When Shama watched her son ride a bicycle happily on the wooden bridge, we told Su that all the good times are over here. Before that, her poverty and embarrassment are beautiful. Yes, her smile makes people feel happy. She took off her glasses and tapped, like the most proud and beautiful woman in the world.
And after that, there was only betrayal again and again, betrayal by everyone. Everyone's betrayal was forced, as if they didn't do it on purpose. When the police told her that he could not get the money unless you killed me, his expression was also very sincere. On the one hand, he thought that it was natural for him to sacrifice Shama for his life and for his beloved wife-he did not take it. This money is used to do evil things; but on the other hand, the strong condemnation of his conscience and morals makes him uneasy, after all, he is actually not good at doing such things. In this vacillation, he gave Shama the right to choose. He forced Shama to the corner, put the gun in her hand, and encouraged her to shoot, because he wanted Shama to kill him and also Hope Shama will succumb to him. He was so greedy that he even involved his wife and asked her to make choices for him.
So I couldn't help asking, from the beginning to the end, did the wife really know nothing about the whole thing? Otherwise, why did she cover her face when Shama was hanged? Would she forgive Shama at that moment? Could Shama's death be able to so completely eliminate her sadness of losing her husband?

Shama cried tremblingly after killing the police, and entered her fantasy world again. She thinks they forgave her because she "have to do", as she sings in the song, this is obligatory. The reason why she enters the hallucinations again and again is not because she escapes reality, on the contrary, she puts her chest directly on the muzzle of life. For Shama, she is not as greedy as the police, her choice is simple-to allow her son to successfully undergo surgery. For this, no matter what she did, she was willing and believed that it was destined.
Shama didn't blame anyone, she forgave them. She faces all lies with a smile, she doesn't hate them, she understands them, she understands the unbearable weight of life, and she forgives the "Judas" like Christ Jesus. She didn't tell the truth, not only because of keeping the agreement with the police, not only because of her love for the colorful world, but also because of the "self-sacrifice" personality set by the director on her.
Is anyone innocent? No, no. Shama is guilty. She killed a life with her own hands, no matter how beautiful the reason is; but at the same time, no one in the movie can escape the guilt, not just one person responsible for Shama’s death, but It is everyone who is responsible, because they have acquiesced to Shama's sacrifice, that is, they acquiesced that there is always sacrifice in this society. The weak always have to die silently, and death is the only relief. They all admitted that people are powerless and irresistible in this society.
Including viewers. Many people saw the end and saw Shama struggling to count 107 steps, hoping that she would die as soon as possible, so that they could free themselves from this suffocating film. Aren't they also the murderers who killed Shama? The evil on them finally showed their feet, even though they sympathized with Shama so much and dealt with injustices for her.
A self-sacrificing person cannot survive in a world where sacrificing others is the rule of the game.

However, setting aside all this, I can only see her smile, she smiles resolutely and forbearingly. At the end of the film, Su was asleep, and Nuannuan and I didn't cry this time. I said it might be summer, and people no longer feel hopeless and helpless.
She did not speak, and squeezed my hand vigorously in the dark, which made my fingers hurt.

I am more and more accustomed to imitating Shama's smile, which is my only weapon on this battlefield. Every time you smile, you are immediately stronger, and at the same time, relatively and fragile.
Just like Shama, she firmly raised the naive child, waded through the wounds of life firmly, but collapsed beyond control in the face of death. Her last hysterical crying seemed reasonable to those smiles.
The movie ends, but life still has to go on.

There are still some fragmentary memories.
On Nuan Nuan’s birthday, I gave her a huge, extremely rare poster of "DANCER IN DARK" in Beijing. When I put the gift in front of her, I saw her eyes moist. On the poster, BJORK has her eyes closed, her hair is slightly flying, and the corners of her mouth are raised. Her profile is beautiful like hope buried in a Pandora's box.
Work in a video store during summer vacation. One night I saw a customer picking this plate, so I sent a short message to Nuan Nuan. I said I hope we will remember each other's expressions, whether real or illusory, instead of remembering each other's helplessness.

The

third time I saw it was in class. When the opening scene appeared, I was shocked. I kept tears from the first scene to the end, but never let them shed. The thought of her hurt makes me desperate to live.
If the first cry was for Shama, and the second repetition was to say goodbye, then this third time was too abrupt.

But talking about her too much, we should also talk about the movie itself. This film, directed by Lars von Trier, won the Palme d’Or at the Cana Film Festival in 2000, and it was immediately criticized. When it comes to Trier, I have to say a few more words. He is the initiator of the "Dougma Manifesto" in 1995.
What is the "Dougma Manifesto"? There are ten rules for its content, including “must be filmed on site, no additional scenery or props must be added”, “portable photography must be used”, “story must take place in a modern environment”, “director’s name must not be included in the opening and closing subtitles Appear" and so on. The directors participating in the declaration must strictly abide by the regulations when filming the film. They must also read the oath before the filming. After the filming is completed, the film will be "submitted for inspection."
The meaning of DOGMA is as pointed out in its oath-"I swear in the name of a director to restrain personal taste. I am no longer an artist. My biggest goal is to find the truth in the character and the environment. I swear. I will use all methods, including sacrificing my personal taste and aesthetic considerations to achieve this goal." It is to let "film return to film" in order to resist the "genreization" and "ideology" of the film industry at that time.
So in "DANCER IN DARK" we were not only dizzy by the shaking lens of the portable camera, but also racked our brains to figure out the content of the story. Of course, in my opinion, this has been more progress than the director’s "THE IDIOTS" filmed in 1998. "THE IDIOTS" is full of more broken shots. For a movie amateur, one has been taken by real life. For everyday people who are exhausted, it is a bit too difficult for them to be asked to link the shots in addition to the requirements of understanding the plot. So the director’s rebelliousness became the source of the audience’s pain. At this point, I think Trier was not successful, because after the film was filmed, it was for the audience, not for the director. As we continue to explore, people can't help but ask whether he has returned to the movie or is it another kind of grandstanding?

Perhaps because of some kind of "irresponsibility" of the director, everyone sees the part they want to watch from the film. Some people use it to inspire and break through difficulties; some care about the legality of the final death penalty (because the hanging on Shama in the film has also caused another intense discussion about the abolition of the death penalty in some states in the United States); some people are depraved of social morality Distressed, some people sneered and sneered.
Of course, a role like Shama does not exist in real life, perhaps it can also be said that there are many Shama in real life. For them, they may never have the luxury of watching a movie, and their lives, like ours, independently constitute their own colors, lights, and images, which are shot and shown on the screen.

Four

this is my journey. But you were not by your side when all this happened.
It is not only a movie's queen, but also a youthful queen. Movies can go back and forth, but youth is only once. In the movie we can hesitate, in life, we can only go straight forward.
On the road, our only travel companion is love, our only singing is crying, and
our only consolation is smiling.

Dancer in the Dark quotes

  • Selma: Clatter, crash, clack, racket, bang, thump, rattle, clang, crack, thud, whack, bam! It's music, now dance!

  • Jeff: I don't understand. In musicals, why do they start to sing and dance all of a sudden? I mean, I don't suddenly start... to sing and dance.
