Samsara - but it's gone too far

Samsara, reincarnation.

Before I went to India last year, a friend highly recommended me to watch this movie. Talking about Leh again this year, this film shot in Ladakh cannot be missed. There are too many meanings in the film, everyone has their own interpretation, perhaps, it is the mapping of what they think and do.

At the beginning of the film, a circling vulture grabs a rock, which falls and kills a sheep in the flock. Among all beings, things are impermanent. And many times, we also wander blindly like sheep, and we don’t think about it carefully until the end. Why do we walk in the heaven and earth like this? Why is it so sloppy and blind and blind and gone for the rest of my life? This seems to be a metaphor for the way of Da Shi's practice, but he has forgotten his original intention.

Because of blindness, go with the flow.

After Dashi's three-year, three-month, and three-day retreat, Apu brought a group of monks to take him back to the monastery. The horse team passed the Manidui, and a stone was engraved with "How can a drop of water not dry up?"

Da Shi was slow to recover, and Apu said, "You have gone too far." I think Da Shi is also persistent in meditation itself, like a foreshadowing. The next narrative is laid out one by one, and every step is unexpected but unexpected. It seems to be expected.

The heart of Dashi's practice could not resist the temptation of desire and left the temple. He walked into the river, and when he walked to the other side, he was no longer a monk, and he went from this side of practice to the other side of the world.

But when it comes to entering the world and being born, is cultivation a complete opposition to the human world? No also. Before he left the monastery, Apu asked him to visit an old monk who lived in seclusion in a cave, a monk who couldn't speak but had deep insight. After seeing the picture, Dashi was still not awake. The strong ego urges him to leave and blinds his eyes. Even though the picture shows the skeletons on the reverse side one by one like a "treasure of the wind and the moon", he still remains Failed to see the essence. At the end, the old monk opened the scroll together with him, and on it was written "everything you encounter is a dojo". The world is a place of practice.

He finally got married with Pima, whom he thought of in his heart, and started a secular life, but he seemed to have long forgotten that the world is a dojo. Once the valve of desire is opened, it cannot be controlled, greed for women's lust, and anger at grain merchants, all of which are ignorance.

Pima threw a branch into the river, the children said it would sink, she said if it didn't, what would happen? The children said they would be tripped over by stones, she said what if they bypassed it? will flow into the sea. Duckweed-like floating branches flow into the sea. For rivers, the sea is the end point and the other side that it chases for thousands of miles. If this sea is the way to enlightenment, the ultimate truth and wisdom, then for the branches, sinking and the obstruction of stones are undoubtedly the fetters on the spiritual path. Going around it is a new world. But at the moment, Dashi, who was beside him and asked to drive away the beautiful helper, didn't understand how to solve the problem in front of him.

When Dash received the news of Apu's death, the letter signed "Satisfy a thousand desires, or overcome one"? He finally left again, thinking that he was going to return to the monastery after he had tasted the world, just as he left the monastery at first. The same luggage, the same night, the difference is that he left his sleeping wife and children and walked away.

The same river, but the other side of the past is replaced by this side, cross the river, put on the clothes of a monk, and the world will be left behind. Is it really so? The leaves are turning yellow, the seasons are reincarnated, and the familiar melody begins again.

When he walked quickly to the foot of the monastery mountain, Dashi was still fighting against the inner demon. Pima appeared in the illusion, and every sentence of torture went straight to his heart. He fell to the ground crying bitterly, the vultures circled freely, leaving a free figure in the blue sky. How easy is freedom in this life, and perhaps this time he is no longer blind. In terms of reincarnation, regardless of the next life, after crying bitterly in this life, he is like a new life.

Turning over the stone that is also engraved with "how can a drop of water not dry up", the back is engraved with "into the sea".

Rolling around in the mortal world, practicing in the dojo, looking for a sea in the heart, in the wind and waves, life is endless, and wherever it goes, how can it dry up?

  • Apo: [his last letter to Tashi] I realize now that my task is not over, and so I will be returning to Samsara. I know that we shall meet again. Perhaps when we do you will be able to tell me what is more important: satisfying one thousand desires or conquering just one.

  • Written on Stone: How can one prevent a drop of water from ever drying up?

Written on Stone: By throwing it into the sea...
