Piacere, Girolamo Trombetta

Share a little detail that runs through the whole film:

At the last parting, Alberto spoke Italian to Luca.

Luca asked what exactly this sentence meant, Alberto said he didn't know, and asked Luca to help him figure it out.

Check the Italian subtitles of Disney+, but this sentence is not accompanied by text, so I am more curious.

Finally found it on Twitter,

Piacere, Girolamo Trombetta

It means "Nice to meet you, I'm Girolamo Trombetta". Nice to meet you, I am Girolamo Trombetta.

At first glance, it seems nothing special, but it must be combined with gestures .

This gesture is divided into three actions:

1) Shake hands , correspond to Piacere, nice to meet you, greet you normally;

2) Change hands , corresponding to Girolamo, because Giro means rotation in Italian;

3) Pull back and forth , corresponding to Trombetta, because Trombetta = trumpet, and pull back and forth is the action of simulating trumpet blowing.

So this sentence is a person named Girolamo Trombetta, through interesting gestures (rotate + trumpet pull back and forth), to help strangers quickly remember their name.

In fact, this sentence + gesture appeared three times in the whole film (if I didn’t miss it)

The first time , after Luca came ashore, Alberto and Luca officially greeted them for the first time. This is Alberto's face tugging in order to pretend to be cool, but in fact he doesn't know the meaning of this sentence.

The second time , Luca asked the girl if Giulia could go to school with her. After the girl agreed, Luca shook hands with her happily. Here is to express joy, but Alberto on the side looks lonely, guessing that there is a sadness of being shared with his best friend's secret gestures, and a friend who no longer needs his own sadness.

The third time was when the train station was finally parting. Echoes the first meeting, but here is more expressing reluctance.

So where did Alberto learn this sentence?

Since he had never left the island at the beginning before (presumably source: Alberto said to Luca at the last parting that he thanked him for helping him leave the island), one possibility is from Alberto's father .

I think my father is cool and want to be like my father. Some of Alberto's behaviors in the film, such as walking with his head high before going to the island for the first time, may follow his father's way of walking. At the same time, this simulation also indirectly expresses the miss.

Another possibility, like "What's wrong with you, stupino", was learned from the mouth of the fisherman on the fishing boat . The small problem with this conjecture is that we need to say hello on the fishing boat? hhh

By the way, it's very touching that the girl's father Massimo gradually became the dark line of Alberto's father's role.

One was when the girl’s father took the two to fish. Alberto asked which kind of knife he could use, but the girl’s father said that none of them would work.

But in the credits at the end of the film, you can see that his birthday gift to Alberto is a knife.

The other is that Alberto's sea monster's identity was revealed and disappeared. After learning the news, the girl's father hurriedly went out to look for him.

The end of the film illustration tells the follow-up of the story, which is very heartwarming, don't miss it!

Some other details,

The poster of "Roman Holiday" behind the girl (I’m afraid you won’t see it),

Together with posters of other early ancient movies, it shows that the story should take place in the 1950s.

Corresponding to the poster of "Roman Holiday" (fonts, male and female main positions, etc. are corresponding to the upper)

Including Pixar animation fixed easter eggs, Pixar ball, A113, pizza cart.

Even Donald Duck

Finally, let’s talk about LGBT implications. The story itself is about friendship and self-acceptance.

The so-called "heterogeneous" can be understood in different ways, such as physical disability, body anxiety, facial anxiety, introverted personality, and so on.

However, there are three places where individuals can feel that there are hints or that can particularly trigger Lenovo's LGBT-related content:

1. Alberto on the beach blew himself up as a sea monster, Luca quickly drew a line with him, and identified Alberto as a sea monster, like some deep cabinet.

2. At the end of the film, Luca's grandma's words in the yard, "Some people can't accept it", and "Luca can find like-minded friends"

3. The ending song, Città vuota (It's a lonely town) , to the effect of the song is that after the lover leaves, the protagonist still feels lonely in the crowded city, calling for the lover to come back.

The streets are overcrowded, the crowd is around me, It is talking to me and laughing And nothing knows about you... I see passersby around me But I know, the city will seem to me empty If you don't come back. How do you want to live alone, without me? Don't you feel that our love is not over yet?

Corresponding to the newspaper illustration, Luca went to the city, while Alberto was in the country, and the two were writing letters.

With this ending song, this lyrics story, it's hard not to make people think...

So cute and cool, I want to go to Italy! The turning point and solution in the second half are actually quite blunt, but how can I say that this film can't help people not to think in the direction of comrades. If this story is interpreted as the story of two little boyfriends coming out of the closet, it is actually very difficult. It's easy to stretch it out, hahaha.

It's a pity that breaking stereotypes is so easy

Luca quotes

  • Massimo Marcovaldo: Where did you boys say you were from?

  • Alberto Scorfano: Piacere, girolamo trombetta. It's a human thing; I'm kind of an expert.

Luca Paguro: What does it mean? The thing you just said?
