It's a twisted story

This is a twisted story. A girl who lost an eye, a cowardly boy, a butcher who killed a dog, an incompetent brother, a father who was proud of his life for killing three "enemies" in the Civil War, and of course, the half-blooded Changgu and his mother. These people living in their respective spaces are drawn by their own aspirations and pursuits, but are bound in a self-sealed world because of irresistible objective factors. This shackled rope became more and more tense with the strength of the external force related to it, and the life that was not very peaceful gradually became twisted... Under the stationing of the American army, in that era, What Koreans in that area felt was the presence of false dignity in exchange for being given alms. Conversely, an American GI who couldn't get used to being surrounded by mountains felt a self-loathing of inability to fit in and fit in on another level. The girl finally repaid the other party by stabbing the dagger in the eye socket, and how should the Koreans of that era repay the debt owed by the war? Perhaps the distortion has made all this unnecessary. After a strong distortion, perhaps what people can get is an upside-down plane.

The more you think about it, the more arrogant it becomes. No matter from any angle of characters, race, men and women, sex, language, space, etc., the whole film is full of binary relationships. But not against each other, but mixed with each other. Therefore, this film is also an allegorical film of how to purify relationships = how Koreans gain self-identity. The three central characters finally chose self-destruction in order to achieve the return of identity and self-redemption.

Much like Imamura's "Pigs and Warships", where Japan is compared to pigs, and here Korea is compared to dogs. Derived from history, the film is thus the presentation of the legacy. Injuries and bullying keep happening, and hope and prospects are dimmed. Many scars bear the imprint of the United States, and after healing, they have to face the result of re-injury. If you can't get revenge, you hurt yourself. Swap the struggle and death of a group of people for a gap in a vicious circle.
