Cause: Nero blamed the old Spock for the destruction of Romulan, and wanted Spock to witness the destruction of his home planet.

After: Nero, the last remnant of the Romulan planet, drove the Mining-Narada starship through the black hole and returned to the past, drilled into the core of Vulcan with a high-pulse drill, and launched a drop of red material into it, producing a strange A black hole is formed, and Vulcan is instantly sucked into the black hole. Both Spock and the Elder Spock witnessed the destruction of their homeworld, and Spock's human mother died as a result.

Result: Spock pilots the old Spock's ship, destroys the drill, and saves the planet. Finally rushing to Nero's spaceship, all the red matter converged into a huge black hole, sucking the Narada into it.

In the end, James T. Kirk rescued Captain Pike of the Enterprise and took his place as the new captain. Spock became first mate of the Enterprise.
