"Young and beautiful" - after prosperity, endless nothingness

Because a movie falls in love with a song. I have actually heard this song many times, but it was only when I saw the movie MV that I completely fell for it. "The Great Gatsby", behind the bustling scene, is this faintly sad love song. As written in the song, in the prosperous world, after everything is lost, there is only endless nothingness left. Behind the luxurious manor, the noisy dance party, and the life of the intoxicated, there are emptiness and unattainable happiness.

Gatsby standing in the midst of blooming flowers, exquisite clothes, fashionable hairstyles, and prudent actions, all of which can't hide the emptiness behind Gatsby - Xiao Li.

Lyrics translation:

Young and beautiful

youth and beauty

I've seen the world done it all, had my cake now

I see the world, experience prosperity, and enjoy the present

Diamonds, brilliant, and Bel-Air now

Diamonds, glory and mansions

Hot summer nights, mid-July when you and I were forever wild

Hot summer, hot July, you and I are endlessly crazy

The crazy days, the city lights, the way you'd play with me like a child

Crazy years, city lights, you and I play like children

Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful

When my youth is gone and my face is withered, do you still love me

Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul

Do you still love me when I have nothing and scars

I know you will, I know you will I know that you will

I know you will, you will love me still

Will you still love me when I'm no longer beautiful

When my youth is gone and my face is withered, do you still love me

I've seen the world, lit it up as my stage now

I have seen the prosperity of the world, and now I light up my stage

Channeling angels in, the new age now

Leading Angels into a New Era

Hot summer days, rock and roll the way you'd play for me at your show and all the ways I got to know your pretty face and electric soul

On a hot summer day, at the party, you tried to please me like crazy, and all I saw was your beautiful face and your electrifying soul

Dear lord when I get to heaven

dear god when i enter heaven

Please let me bring my man

please allow me to take my he

When he comes tell me that you'll let me

please let him come to meet me

Father tell me if you can

can god tell me

Oh that grace, oh that body, oh that face make me wanna party

That grace, that body, that face, all make me want to sing and dance

He's my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds

He is my sun, he makes me shine like a diamond

Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful

When my youth is gone and my face is withered, do you still love me

Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul

Do you still love me when I have nothing and scars

I know you will, I know you will I know that you will

I know you will, you will love me still

He once owned it, and finally lost it all

The Great Gatsby quotes

  • Nick Carraway: I expected him to be...

    Jordan Baker: Old and fat?

Nick Carraway: Yes. Young men just don't drift coolly out of nowhere and buy a palace on Long Island.

  • Tom Buchanan: Daisy, can't you see who this guy is, with his house and his parties and his fancy clothes? He is just a front for Wolfsheim, a gangster, to get his claws into respectable folk like Walter Chase.

Jay Gatsby: The only respectable thing about you, old sport, is your money. Your money, that's it. Now I've just as much as you. That means we're equal.

Tom Buchanan: Oh, no. No. We're different. I am. They are.

    [points to Daisy]

Tom Buchanan: She is. We're all different from you. You see, we were born different. It's in our blood. And nothing that you do or say or steal... or dream up can ever change that. A girl like Daisy...

Jay Gatsby: [Knocks contents off bar-top & grabs Tom with a raised fist] You shut up! Shut up! You shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

Nick Carraway: [Voice-over] Gatsby looked, in that moment, as if he had... killed a man.
