Figure Network Intrusion and Deletion

Science fiction, a category that's been around for a long time but has only taken hold on the big screen in recent years.

From the perspective of the proportion and rigor of its scientific content, there are "soft" and "hard" points , that is, whether its content is based on humanities or science fiction.

From the perspective of future development, there are two kinds of light and dark. The representative figures are "Jules Verne" - the future development brought by science is infinitely beautiful, and Herbert Wells - the future degeneration of human race , further class antagonism. The introduction of the concept of aliens in recent decades has added new elements to the two.

The novels produced according to their content are, of course, divided into two types: one is the one that makes people excited and moved infinitely. The other is similar to a thriller: Mom, the earth is scary, and I'm going back to Mars.

The recently released "annihilation" belongs to the latter category.

The original story of this story is the first part of the series of novels "The Lost South" created by American writer Jeff VanderMeer: "annihilation", which once defeated "Three-Body Problem" and won the highest award in the science fiction industry, the "Nebula Award".

Originally, the story did not win with particularly grand scenes, but was a combination of science fiction, fantasy, and thriller. But after the film was made, many conflicts were added due to the different characteristics of the screen and the text.

In the movie, a strange substance covers the seaside lighthouse and continues to expand. Its concept can be understood as "an expanding enchantment", which the people in the film call "flickering", like a giant colored soap bubble. And all those who entered it to explore, all went and never returned.

Until the heroine's husband, Kane, came back from inside and was dying.

In order to find out what is going on, the heroine as a biologist, together with four other outstanding women: a doctor, a psychologist, a geologist, and a physicist, form a team and enter the flash exploration. .

But after entering, although all the equipment is normal, it is still unable to communicate with the outside world. The main group speculates that this enchantment is similar to a prism, which can reflect all the signals in it, so that the signals cannot be sent out, and it can even reflect the DNA of the species.

This has resulted in the rapid and infinite division of cells inside the enchantment, the confusion of DNA, the strange mutation of genes - completely different flowers on the same bead, crocodiles with shark teeth, bears with human voices, and even direct copying Another body that is exactly the same. (ps: I didn't learn science well, I really don't know how DNA can reflect)

Here are a few things about biology and the fusion of biology and fantasy in the film, if explained in terms of science, or at least the science the film is trying to show:

1. The infinite division of cells.

The heroine herself is a biologist. The movie opens with the heroine showing her students the process of cell division. It is because of division that human beings can grow from fertilized eggs to adults. But at the same time, due to the limitation of the number of divisions, human beings will gradually age.

The only exception is cancer cells. Cancer cells removed by scientists from the American woman Lux in 1951 are still active in various laboratories. Compared with ordinary cells, cancer cells do not age, can divide forever, and divide very quickly, almost every 24 hours. doubled.

In the movie, the species cells inside the enchantment have this characteristic.

2. DNA confusion and fusion

In the movie, because of the infinite and rapid division of cells, the probability of gene mutation is greatly increased, so the flowers on the same plant appear completely different.

But not only that: the mouth of the crocodile grows a circle of teeth like a shark.

After the bear killed the expedition team, it was able to make the sound of the expedition team member, as if two different species were recombined into a new species.

And plants have also grown into the shape of the human body: the genes that determine the shape of human growth are integrated into plants.

If the above two points are mentioned above, it is still reasonable to imagine on the basis of existing science, and the third point is more sci-fi elements.

3. Replication of the individual

Because of the rapid division of cells, a cell can quickly divide and grow into a new individual in a short period of time - directly copying an individual that is exactly the same as the original. The heroine once saw two identical deer in the woods: the shape and movement were all exactly the same, and the effect was like dazzling, the double image seen.

Later, the video I saw in the lighthouse showed that in fact, the heroine's husband had died, and the one who walked out to the outside world was a clone of the heroine's husband. And the heroine herself finally has a replica.

Here, the film itself discusses not only science, but also philosophy:

Before dying, the hostess husband asked painfully: Who am I? are you me? am i you?

The replica body and the body, human beings and plants, are completely confused at this time, and his self-awareness has been blurred.

This problem also occurs at the end: the heroine kills her own copy, sets the world on fire, and finally escapes. But all this was dictated by the heroine: who really came out? Is it the body or the replica?

The director didn't say anything, and the audience can only imagine for themselves.

And what is extremely scary after thinking about it is that the two replicants live in the normal human world and gradually occupy the entire world. The most frightening part is that we don't even know who the other person is, what they look like, and what their purpose is.

As a carbon-based man, the finished product of carbohydrates, our most exaggerated imagination in science fiction works in the past is just the emergence of silicon-based man, or a life form in the form of radio waves.

But in this movie, what is the other side? Is it an energy group? Because it does not seem to have a specific form, but its rapid replication characteristics determine that it accompanies all living things like shadows. If it is solid or liquid life, but it can also affect the original pattern of the DNA of all species.

The most terrifying thing is, what is the purpose of the other party? It seems that there is no purpose, just to have fun at will... Or does the other party have a clear and clear mind? Does its thinking depend on the creature it replicates? Act on instinct?

We know nothing.

I don't really like this movie in terms of presentation: the constant flashbacks and the five female scientists who fail to highlight their own characteristics and professionalism at all make it impossible for me to give it the highest score.

But the story is very complete. For science and exploration, and the wide-open brain hole, I was only shocked when I read it, and I have a lot of aftertastes after watching it. It's really not bad, you might even say, excellent.

For each person, whether it is good or bad, we have to look at personal preferences and opinions.

Finally, a completely off topic: Natalie Portman, how beautiful! Although there are wrinkles.

It's the saddest thing in the world.
