Can't be treated as a general comedy

Under the over-extension of the film company's advertisement, this film feels like a low-level funny movie. Originally, I was holding it to watch a comedy movie like "When We Are Fake Together" that teased comrades, only to realize that this movie was different from what I thought.
Picture quote: The Amazon.com

movie is adapted from the [Houston Chronicle] former reporter Steven McWick’s work of the same name [I love you Phillip Morris], which tells the protagonist Stephen Russell (played by Jim Carrey), who has a stable job and a Perfect family. After a car accident, he decided to change his past life and come out as a comrade. When he came out, he discovered that the glamorous life of comrades was not cheap, so he started scams to obtain the expenses of the luxurious life. Unfortunately, the good times were not frequent, and he was arrested soon. Saiweng lost his horse and knew it was a blessing. In prison, he met Philip Morris (Ewan McGregor). He couldn’t restrain himself and fell in love with the person he loved most in his life...

As said before, put this movie As a comedy movie of Jim Carrey that we remembered in the past, it is guaranteed to be disappointing. In many of the comedies in the film, Jin Carrey still maintains his joyful performance, but the gay role that he originally thought he had made a breakthrough did not have much acting performance. In my own sense, whether it is a woman or a man who is playing with his opponent, there doesn't seem to be much different feeling. He still performed to the best of his own pleasure, but it was like a personal one-man show, and did not change due to his different roles. In contrast, previous works such as "Ace Enemy" or "Mr. No Problem" performed better. This one stands out.

In contrast, Ewan McGregor’s performance made me think that it was a highlight of this film. According to the conventions of such films in the past, the male actors with more feminine roles are often the end full of joy. Like Robert Schneider in "Miss So Spicy", or Robin Williams' "Slim Daddy", the gender disorder will always give people a special comedy in some existing impressions. Laughing fruit. At this point, Philip, played by Ewan McGregor, does show that kind of joy. But other than that, what is more eye-catching is the part of his inner drama. He gives people a very cute feeling. Many of the more inner dramas are for girls' mood (I really doubt that he is hiding deep in his heart. (With a girl)'s performance, all give people a sense of enthusiasm.

What impressed me the most was in the film, when a cellmate told Philip the passage about Russell’s death. His performance exuded a sad mood unique to women, which moved me inexplicably. I think because of the catalysis here, when he finally gave Russell a slap in the face, the audience will feel a great reconciliation, because Yiwang’s performance makes people think that Russell really died like this, and because of his performance, With the ups and downs at the end of the film festival, this somewhat absurd comedy draws a complete and wonderful ending. Therefore, under the performance of Ewan McGregor, the film has a lot of emotional things in it. Although the girly is very heavy and some places are a little deliberate, it is not objectionable. I want to lose his performance. This film There will be a lot less to see.

Excluding the performance skills of the two roles, the screenwriting skills are really impressive. Many plot arrangements of movies are always unexpected. In many places, he not only broke everyone's thinking about comedy, but also broke everyone's impression of past Hollywood movie plot arrangements. It seems that Duan Jin Carrey tried to jump off the building and then jumped to the floor. It seemed like a simple task to be completed smoothly, but the story was not allowed to be so simple in the movie. And Philip discovered that Russell helped him beat people because of his money. Philip, who was expected to be angry, unexpectedly thought that this was the most romantic thing Russell had done for him. These bridges in our previous concepts, or old stalks in some comedies, under the ingenious arrangement of the screenwriters, not only subverted the formula of the previous comedy, but also gave people a different sense of joy.

And since this is a gay movie, the biggest challenge for me as a straight man is some sexual hints (some of which are already explicit) in the film, or some intimacy shots of men. In the past, this kind of comedy was always taken with joking or vulgar means. In this film, the director described it in a very romantic way. In this way, the atmosphere of many sections is actually touching, but when you see Jim Carrey or Ewan McGregor performing, the kind of established impression outside the film makes people involuntarily gimmick. Therefore, the movie is not only a transformation of a comedy, but also a subversion of a love movie, making this movie popular but not vulgar.

So you can think of this movie as a gay movie or as a comedy. I think the movie is more like a black comedy. The unthinkable plot of fraud in the film, or the trumpet-blowing culture in the prison, these are unthinkable. Even if it reminds me at the beginning of the movie that it is a real-life film adaptation, it is still difficult to convince me, but if you watch this movie without subjective consciousness, you will actually find it is pretty good-looking.

After all, it's still a pure Jim Carrey-style screwball.
