To endure this emptiness, we can only rely on each other

"Macro Contact" is a science fiction movie in 1997. I also watched it for the first time at that time. It was an era when science fiction films were crowded, and I almost ignored its existence. The heroine, the genius scientist Ellie, pursued cosmic civilization all her life, and finally one day she received an interstellar signal and was able to travel between the stars. However, this process has gone through contradictions and discussions from all angles of politics, society, religion, and country. I thought I was just passing the time to watch an outdated sci-fi movie, but I didn't expect that I am in a very emotional mood now. Unfortunately, I forgot my mood in high school.

The aliens didn't tell her any science she wanted to know. When she asked that others should come and see all this, the alien refused, saying, this is only the first step, and it has been so for hundreds of millions of years.

For any world we don't know yet yearn for, whether that world is the universe or just a person, there is always a paradoxical and fatal attraction to us. She tried her best to explore everything there, and any signal she received from there was a treasure. She spent 1 second on Earth to travel through multiple black holes and saw the alien who turned into her father, she asked Why do you want to contact her, the alien said "We didn't contact you, you have been looking for us". Everything we get is not out of thin air, because we have always wanted it and worked hard for it. All we get is feedback on our actions. But not everyone understands our desires. We want to be able to take more people there like Ellie, and see the beauty, the aliens refused, saying, this is just the first step, it has been this way for hundreds of millions of years. Not everyone has the ability to foresee the good, and when we have the ability, we are so lost, so isolated, so lonely. The more you know, the more afraid, the more you think, the more sad, the more you see, the more lonely you are.

To endure this emptiness, the aliens say, can only rely on each other.

I believe that somewhere, there will also be my alien civilization and another lonely existence

I vaguely remember that I downloaded it to collect the JodieFoster movie series, and then I lay in the hard drive for more than half a year before I thought of it and clicked it yesterday. On the premise that I can't remember the sporadic plot, I can only use "relish, relish" to describe my impressions at that time, which made me fall in love with science fiction movies strongly. It's just that, MAC will always get stuck in the last five minutes, so that I can't see the end, it's a crash.

The theme is good, but the Hollywood-style villain deliberately shaped in order to highlight the contradiction makes people a little tired of aesthetics.

Contact quotes

  • Ellie Arroway: You're not real. None of this is real.

Alien: [disguised as her father] That's my scientist.

Ellie Arroway: [looking the beach around you] When I was unconscious, you downloaded my thoughts, my memories, even Pensacola.

Alien: We thought this might make things easier for you.

  • Ellie Arroway: Is this some test?

    Alien: No, no tests...

[alien disguised as her father holds Ellie's hand]

Alien: you have your mother's hands... You're an interesting species, an interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams and such horrible nightmares. You fell so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we found that makes the emptiness bearable, each other.

    Ellie Arroway: What happens now?

Alien: [he stands up] Now, you go home.

Ellie Arroway: [she stands up] Home? But I have so many questions, do we get to come back?

Alien: This was just a first step. In time you'll take another.

Ellie Arroway: But other people need to see what I've seen, they need to see...

Alien: This is the way it's been done for billions of years. Small moves, Ellie. Small moves.
