Presto reviews
" Presto " (Presto) is an American computer animation short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released in 2008, which was shown in theaters before " WALL.E ". The short film tells the story of a magician who tries to give a good show with one of his own rabbits who refuses to cooperate, and is filled with references to Tom and Jerry; A gag homage to classic animated films like Mad Melody . The film is directed by senior Pixar animator Doug Sweetland , who is also making his directorial debut. The original idea of the short film was that a magician used a rabbit in his performance, but the rabbit was very stage fright. But the idea was deemed too long and complicated, so it needed to be done all over again. In order to design the theater in the film, the creators visited a number of opera houses and movie theaters for inspiration. Initially designing the theatre with 2,500 spectators was also problematic as it would be prohibitively expensive, but this was resolved by showing mostly the backs of the spectators. The short film received very positive reviews, and it was included in the home media published by WALL.E , which critics also found to be a delightful special. One critic called "Presto" "an outright winner," while others called it a "short and hilarious cartoon." The film was nominated for Annie Awards and Oscars , and was part of the 2008 Animation Show.
