Your "idol" is not "caught" this time, but "retired".

There is a proverb in the Chinese "Awakening the World and Constant Words": If a gentleman takes revenge, he waits for three years (or he no longer recites the old evil), and the villain takes revenge only in front of his eyes. For the "upstart" Altman who was expelled by "Hollywood" and now...

[Film Review] The Player (1992) 8.2/10

Robert Altman's inside-Hollywood meta-comedy THE PLAYER is shot with a shoe-string budget but reverberates with sardonic, rapier-like kicks, and affixed with a chilling frisson that defies ethics and our expectation thanks to Michael Tolkin's trenchant script which brings Tinseltown's treacherous...

Three axes slashed at Hollywood. Compared with the black and serious Billy Wilder, the fun of watching is no less than watching the fresh Quentin twice. Of course, the most awesome scheduling is that Altman moved half of it. A coffee from Beverly Hills came over and made a sarcastic and powerful joke. Compared with the vast number of internal montages, the dazzling skills at the beginning and the domineering self-reflection at the end are at best the icing on the cake.

3.5 It may be that the translated version is not good, or you don’t like this style. The two-hour film can’t stand it three times in the first 20 minutes, and fell asleep twice...Where is the "advanced game" for the male protagonist? It's not very understanding either. But the long shot skills at the beginning are good.

    The Player quotes

    • Detective DeLongpre: [stopping Mill just as he's exiting his gated driveway] Mr. Mill, I'm Detective DeLongpre, Pasadena police.

Griffin Mill: Yes, I recognize you. Did you have a good time at the party last night?

Detective DeLongpre: No, I didn't. I'm not supposed to have a good time when I'm on duty.

    • Gar Girard: [in the Pasadena police station hallway, on the way to the lineup] Mr. Mill, Gar Girard. I'm here to represent you. Dick Mellen called me in on this. Here's the situation. They've got a witness and they want you to do a lineup. Now, if you say no, they'll arrest you. I'm certain of that. And even if you get identified, I'll get you off on bail. Now, this witness lives across the street from the parking lot. Even if she makes an identification - a positive ID, right now - even if that happens, it was very late at night. By the time I'm finished with her, the world will have a whole new legal standard for blindness.
