The idea is good, but it is not convincing to base the male protagonist's decision to remove the cochlea on the basis of his incompatibility with artificial hearing and his girlfriend becoming a good girl. The paragraphs of the House for the Deaf are too mediocre (no wonder the male protagonist still decides to have surgery), and the large paragraphs of the dialogue with the old man seem too preachy.
