4.5 stars on my combined score. The film is reminiscent of Blade Runner (1982), The Truman World (1998), The Matrix (1999). The latter two were released after "City of Souls", and it is said that "The Matrix" was greatly influenced by the film.

Although most of the sci-fi films have the legacy of German expressionism, none of them can be so perfect in art, make-up, and lighting as this film. It can even be said that it uses modern film technology to restore a "Carriga" In "Metropolis", the exploration of propositions such as memory, spirit, body, identity, etc. is also closer to the original expressionism, rather than its rheological variant "film noir".
