  • The film is set in Persia in the 11th century. In order to learn medicine to cover up his Catholic body, an Englishman joined a medical school in Isbahan that only admits Muslims and Jews. The teacher he followed was named Avicenna, a famous Islamic scientist, thinker and doctor in history. There are more than 200 books by Avicenna, the most famous of which is "The Encyclopedia of Philosophy and Science", which was a high-level encyclopedia at the time; the other great book is "The Classic of Medicine", which was regarded as medicine in Western countries until the 17th century. The classics still have reference value. "The Physician" combines epic and fiction to show the fearless spirit of a group of people to explore true knowledge in that century ruled by ignorance and superstition.

Foreigners also play with the past and satirize the present

Those who understand international politics can probably see the implication of using the past to satirize the present. In the film, the rich student drinking, the tyrant who protects science, and the radical fundamentalist correspond to reality one by one. The student corresponds to the secular school. Tyrants are like Mubarak, Saddam, Bashar, Musharraf and others. Although tyrants are tyrannical, they modernize the country.

The radicals are equivalent to the Taliban, IS and others,...

      The physician

The Chinese translation is "Mystery Doctor", I watched it in the middle of the night, and the director was Philipp Stölzl.
The picture is quite beautiful, and the story is quite a pity. In the film, the prosperity of the Arab world before the N century can not help people think of China in the Tang and Song dynasties before the N century. We also developed! Even today, the library in the Paris mosque is a treasure trove. The attitude of Muslim friends is still quite friendly (much more...

      An absurd religious legend.

A Christian, disguised as a Jew, infiltrated the Muslim world, then obtained Tinder's medical technology and brought it back to the Christian world.

To tell the truth, the whole story is a little absurd, starting from the witch doctor-level performance, and then suddenly the protagonist hangs up and sees dead people. Then he longed for the medical technology of the Muslim world, killed him, and inexplicably committed adultery. Inexplicably, he was attacked with a plague, and...

      A reconciled movie

I personally prefer this kind of epic movies with historical themes, but now there are relatively few films of this kind, and on the other hand, there are too many fictions based on history, combining fiction and reality, such as the Kingdom of Heaven.
This is actually a movie with a similar theme to the Kingdom of Heaven. It uses historical interpretation to seek reconciliation and show favor to the YSL world. However, compared to the reconciliation between Christianity and YSL in the...

      A tyrant's road to self-salvation and sublimation

This film is hardly known in China, and there are even few people who do Chinese subtitles (of course, it may also be related to the current "copyright protection" action of Radio and Television). I watched this film because of the rebellious mentality of young people. Even if they always go against the trend, don't chase popular movies, and focus on unpopular watching, even if some of them are really boring, it's better than invisibly begging some popular movies. It was with this naive...

Sure enough, it was German films. Ancient religious rule was too serious. Foreign countries were oppressed by religion, but people were still very creative. Does this culture teach us to be more critical and more innovative? The book written by the Americans said that the British went to the Middle East to study medicine. Germans filmed it. The movie Tom Payne is...

    Movie quotes

    • Karim: My father believed feelings and emotions were beneath a true ruler. When I was a child, to drive them from my heart, he would take me to witness executions. I watched condemned men beg for their lives. I watched the swarms of flies feasting on twitching corpses. But then, over time, I became used to the sight, the smell, and the screams. In time I felt nothing. My father had succeeded in turning death into a subject of objective study.

Karim: And now I am the Shah, ruler of all we see. The king of feeling nothing.

    • Rob Cole: When the plague came, you were as helpless as a beach is to the advance of the sea. The tide washed over us and dragged our people away, and we could do nothing to stop it.

Ibn Sina: You ask of medicine what only Allah can perform. Or Yahweh.

Rob Cole: Do you never doubt your calling?

Ibn Sina: Every morning and every evening. In between I work too hard to think about it.

    • Quasim: Would you do me a favor? When I am gone, take my corpse to the tower and leave it for the birds.

Rob Cole: You don't want to be buried or cremated?

Quasim: We Zoroastrians leave our bodies to the vultures. They cleanse our souls of earthly remains.

      Rob Cole: What about resurrection?

Quasim: Muslims, Jews, Christians, doubt the immortality of the soul. They want to take their bones with them, just in case.

Rob Cole: So you care nothing for your body?

Quasim: Why should God worry about the house, when he can have the fruit inside?
