It was originally a post, but when I wrote it, I found a lot of words, so I changed the post.
When I saw Mulholland Road for the first time, I really looked at it several times and was amazed. Afterwards, I felt a lot simpler when I saw the life and death stop. Basically, it became clear when I saw the younger half. I personally think that if you want to understand the stay movie, there are two main reasons to grasp. The first is that this kind of movie only has the last 15 minutes or so when the truth is revealed. The first more than an hour is a dream, and it appears in the dream. People must have been seen in reality, so remember the group of people who stood on the scene of the car accident at the last moment and think back to when they appeared in the dream, what identity did, what they said. The second is that the one-frame images are interspersed from the beginning to the end of the movie. When I watch it, I feel that it just flickers. If it is played at normal speed, I can’t see what it is. When this happens Play slowly to see the picture clearly. For example, after Sam and Leon play chess, there are a few flashing pictures there. When watching it, pause and rewind and play it slowly, and you will see that it is Henry’s family portrait. The scene at the time of the car accident, so I fully understood it when I saw it.
There are two problems mentioned above the students, I talk about my own views, I do not know whether it is reasonable answer:
1, Lila after seeing those pictures have signed Henry desperately ran downstairs to
the real part of the movie in the back of a car accident, Sam Checking the situation of other people in the car When Lila was treating Henry, a momentary screen flashed. If you slow down, you can see that it was Lila running downstairs. So in the dream, Lila desperately running downstairs corresponds to her trying to save Henry in reality. Henry has an instinctive desire to survive when he is dying. He hopes that Lila, who is rescuing him, can see his painting talent and right. The regret of the past and the longing for life, so in his dream Lila first saw Henry's signature behind the painting, and then saw his writing "forgive me", and then ran downstairs desperately until he reached the door. The door lock couldn't be unlocked anyhow. At this time, Lila's eyes focused on the door as if seeing something. This meant that Lila wanted to save Henry very much, but found that the injury was serious and she was powerless.
In fact, in the real part, almost all the plots such as the death of a car accident, the onlookers failing to rescue, and the slow arrival of the police in the real part, correspond to the dreams. Father's death was when he regained his eyesight and talked to Sam and walked to the end of the road alone. The street lights went out one by one. Mother's death was when the room was empty after Sam arrived at her house, saying that he remembered that there were leftovers but the refrigerator was empty. Henry's girlfriend's death (forgot what her name was) was after the dance, the crowd dispersed and she was left alone as if she didn't exist. When Henry was outside the jewellery shop window, there was a lot of blood on his head, but his surroundings were still, the cars stopped moving, and people stood and watched him doing nothing. Here, Henry’s eyes were very Resentful, expressed dissatisfaction with the onlookers of the car accident. The blood became blood at Sam's feet in the next shot, because in reality Henry's blood flowed to Sam's feet. At this time, Sam was standing in the subway. Note that a flashed picture was in the same car as Sam. There are two police officers. These two are the two police officers who arrived at the scene and talked to Levy later. A walkie-talkie was placed on a person's leg in the subway, and the voice of "Brooklyn Bridge" came from inside. This is them. They received the alarm, but their subway was in two directions from the oncoming Henry. Sam patted the door and called Henry because he wanted to save him. Henry waved his hand to Sam sadly. The train he was on was empty. No one is heading towards death.
2. After Henry's death, Sam appeared in a dream scene while talking to Lila
People should still have a small amount of brain activity in the short time after death. I remember that when I was young, I read a book called The Mystery of Nature in the World and there is a chapter about this. This should be the meaning here. Be aware that it is easy to misunderstand here, because the dream just appeared when Sam was talking with Lila, so some students would mistake it for Sam's thoughts. This dream is still Henry's. Sam is a normal person. It is impossible to have such a strange dream suddenly, and the scene is exactly the same as Henry's dream before. Because it was a short-lived dream after Henry's death, it was a flash and you need to slow down to see clearly. Through slow playback, you can see four main pictures: The first one is Sam sitting at the Go table and playing his hands. Ring, outside the window is a pair of big eyes, this is Lila's, the second is a close-up of Lila's lips, the third is Sam hugging Lila, and the fourth is Sam making a call in the phone booth. There are many places in Henry's dreams in the movie that imagine Sam as himself and Lila as his girlfriend. This point does not need to be repeated, it is still the same here. Sam played chess with Leon and showed the ring to Leon. From the conversation, we learned that Sam had bought this ring for a while but he hadn’t proposed to Lila. When Sam was sitting alone at the table playing with the ring, it appeared outside the window. Lila's eyes meant that Lila was actually waiting outside the window through a layer of glass, but Sam hadn't given it to her yet (somewhat like Wong Kar-wai's one hundredth of a centimeter). Needless to say the red lips and hugs afterwards, the picture of Sam calling is back to the front where Sam called Lila. During the phone call, Sam told Lila that she is the person he trusts most in the world and he loves her. So the point of this plot at the end of the movie is that at the moment after Henry died, he still had his girlfriend in mind. He regretted why he bought the ring and never asked his girlfriend to marry him. He waited until his 21st birthday, but the result was no longer possible. , He longed to be able to kiss her lips again, hug and caress her, and tell her: "You are the only person I believe in in the world, I love you."
At that time, he was very sad when he watched the picture in slow motion. Zi forgot all the suspense in front. It turns out that stay is not a suspense and horror, but a sad story. Henry's love of regret and desire to express is still very moving.
