Responsibility and perseverance make a man taller

The down-and-out boxer coincides with the entire socio-economic crisis and lives in poverty and hardship. In order to support his wife and children, he had to put down the air and go to receive relief money. His boxing career took a toll on him, starvation and poverty ravaged his body. In one competition, his license was revoked for being too bland, which made life even more difficult. Because there was no money, and there was no electricity and heating at home in the winter, he could only eat cheap steak occasionally. He went to the wharf to carry bags, did all kinds of tiring work, and lived a difficult life.
Old boxing friend Joe makes a surprise visit and asks him to replace a fighter to fight a world boxing competitor for $350. JIM seized this hard-won opportunity to win the game. Since then, he has trained hard, and he has gone all out in every match, from unknown to world champion. Changed the lives of myself and my family, and inspired people during the Great Depression to fight for their lives.

In the face of difficulties, responsibility and perseverance make a man taller. JIM spent a lot of time training hard, while the competition left him scarred. He didn't give up, he didn't slack off, he still kept on fighting. This makes me feel ashamed of who I am now, and now I am sometimes greedy for pleasure, content with the status quo, and no longer struggling like I used to. While thinking that I can live a happy, rich and leisurely life one day, I don’t think about making progress, I read less, have more places to eat and drink, and communicate more, but I am more empty. Perhaps, each of us has to find the strongest inner strength in order to persevere.

I am so envious of the love between JIM and his wife May. May is beautiful and graceful. When JIM turned from rich to poor, I began to think that May would leave him. After all, it is easy to be rich, but difficult to share weal and woe. I'm wrong. Fortunately, there is a virtuous May who always understands and supports her husband behind his back. She never complained and worked hard to keep the family from dying. After winning a game, JIM, who was hungry, unexpectedly brought back a bouquet of roses, a luxury that May had not touched for many years. This scene moved me very much. Happiness turns out to be so simple, and women can be so easily satisfied.

Cinderella Man quotes

  • Jim Braddock: You think you're telling me something? Like, what, boxing is dangerous, something like that? You don't think working triple shifts and at night on a scaffold isn't just as likely to get a man killed? What about all those guys who died last week living in cardboard shacks to save on rent money just to feed their family, 'cause guys like you have not quite figured out a way yet to make money off of watching that guy die? But in my profession - and it is my profession - I'm a little more fortunate.

  • [Mae enters a church on the day of her husband's big fight with Max Baer]

Mae Braddock: I came to pray for Jim.

    Father Rorick: So did they.

[camera pans around to reveal that the church is almost completely filled with people]
