One theme is the conflict between capitalists (city brains) and workers (city builders).
Capitalists enjoy the fruits of their labor, with convenient transportation and bright lights throughout the city. Among them, Evergarden and Yoshihara Club are the epitome of their enjoyment. Workers work in shifts day and night in the dungeon, 10 hours a day. There is a scene where the machine explodes and turns into a big open mouth, and the workers present are pushed back and forth into the machine, "lubricating the joints of the machine with blood."
There is a detail that has appeared several times, that is, there are two clocks on the wall with different timekeeping methods. The upper one is for the capitalists to watch, and the 24-hour cycle is used, and the lower one is for the workers, and the 10-hour cycle. Capitalists control the economic lifeline of the city and can decide whether a migrant worker records data in the office or flips a switch in a dungeon.
The workers felt that there should be a change in the day-to-day life of nothing, so they heard Maria's call, came together, and waited for the coordinator to appear.
The capitalist felt a threat to workers eager for change, and he believed they were going to overthrow his rule and take its place. In order to suppress workers in a justifiable manner, they let their behaviors go unchecked.
The final result is that the main scheming of the city is destroyed and the dungeon is flooded. Both parties received unforeseen damage. In this case, in order to rebuild the city, the coordinator came into play. "Put the hands of the chief foreman and the ruler together", which means to understand each other and build the "Tower of Babel" together.
Another theme is the trade-off between artificial intelligence and human manual labor. Scientists build robots at the cost of losing a hand. "Isn't it worth exchanging one hand for a robot?" This question is worth thinking about until now. Choosing between your one hand and professional machine equipment, will you choose the hand or the machine?
What is shown in the movie is that artificial intelligence bears the seven deadly sins and brings death. We know that science and technology are not good or bad, it all depends on how they are used. And the artificial intelligence in the movie is all used to instigate others to commit crimes and provoke people's conflicts. This application method has caused bad results, and it does not mean that science and technology are not conducive to human progress. Although there are also advanced technological developments in the film, the city's transportation methods are diversified. I don't think the director's expression in this regard can be taken lightly. After all, this shows that science and technology can also bring benefits. The main point of the film is that artificial intelligence has opened a "Pandora's box", choosing whether artificial intelligence will lead to disasters or choosing "hands".
My choice is artificial intelligence, because compared to the previous species, we in the past were similar to the artificial intelligence of the present, and the productivity and resource utilization were also greatly improved at the same time. It may be an "extinction" for humans, but for this planet, it's an improvement.
