Flipped's "whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

Such a girl, such a beautiful girl as Julie.
Such a boy, I do not know how to cherish Bryce.

I haven't read the novel, but the movie is enough to make my heart skip a beat. I haven't seen such a refreshing American movie for a long time. The narration of the movie is narrated by Julie and Bryce separately. This way makes people feel the emotions of different people from different perspectives on the same thing.

"I like to chat with him while he paints, so I get to know my dad better" is Julie's narration, as she chats with her father in a shabby place. She really is a persistent girl, maybe it's Bryce's eyes, or even his smile that fascinates Julie. At such an innocent age, just a smile in her eyes can make Julie's heart beat.

"You have to look at the whole landscape." This is the most memorable thing Julie's father told her. At that time, Julie didn't understand that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, until one day, she climbed to the On a plane tree, I saw an incredible scenery that I had never seen before, and learned that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". Seeing this, I really want to have the urge to climb a tree and see the world. There are now more and more people whose whole is less than the sum of its parts.

Bryce's grandfather is one of my favorite characters in the movie, he told Bryce "Some people are shallow, some are superficial, and they fail, and one day you'll meet rainbow-colored people, and when you After meeting her, everyone else is just a cloud." Likewise, Chet felt that Julie had a shadow of his wife.
Not everyone is so lucky to meet a girl like Julie, a girl who seems ordinary but the most special. A junior high school student can feel the feeling that many people can't feel in their entire life. She understands that a person's inner appearance is more important than appearance. In this regard, Bryce appears to be a lot hypocritical. He had no courage and hesitated.

The comparison between the Julie family and the Bryce family shows the superficiality and worldliness of Bryce's father. It highlights Julie's father's sense of responsibility and many advantages as a man. For one sentence, he sacrificed his family and sent his younger brother to a private nursing home in order to have a better living environment and better living conditions for his younger brother. This selfless love is truly touching.

So, we should learn a lot from this movie. People should develop themselves into the part of people whose whole is greater than the sum of their parts.

Suddenly, I really want to plant a plane tree.

Flipped quotes

  • Bryce Loski: They're all chickens.

Chet Duncan: I'm proud of you Bryce. You overcame your fear.

    Bryce Loski: Huh?

Chet Duncan: You talked to her.

Bryce Loski: Oh. Yeah... it's no big deal.

Steven Loski: That's what she told you? They're all chickens?

    Bryce Loski: Yeah.

Steven Loski: She's a genius. You're both geniuses. Of course they're all chickens! A rooster's a chicken. The question is, is one of them a rooster or are they all hens?

Bryce Loski: [voiceover] Hens? Who said anything about hens? Then it hit me - Garrett didn't know jack shit about chickens.

  • Bryce Loski: When she walked out of the door, I thought back to the first time I saw her. How could anybody, ever, have wanted to run away from Juli Baker?

Juli Baker: He looked at me with those eyes, those once again dazzling eyes, and I knew that Bryce Loski was still walking around with my first kiss - but he wouldn't be for long.
