The heartbeat is the sincerity and kindness

A projector, a white wall, hiding in the room in the afternoon to watch the movie "Flipped".

At the beginning of the story, Juli, a 7-year-old girl, fell in love with the little boy Bryce at first sight, and then kept trying to get close to him, but he was disgusted. The story unfolds in the daily lives of two families.

There are two things that struck me most about this film: the way Juli's father was educated, and the way he learned to see the world.

Juli found a place of tranquility high in the plane trees, where the whole world could be seen. She can stay away from the hustle and bustle on the ground, quietly enjoy the purple-red afterglow of the sunset, and the orange-red fire that ignites the sunset on the horizon. So when the tree needs to be cut down, she sits on the height of the tree and refuses to come down, trying her best to defend this paradise, but no one can understand, and what she gets is ridicule. Juli's father did not blame or beat her for this, but painted a plane tree for her, hoping that she could remember the wonderful time in the treetops. He is doing his best to protect what Juli thinks is important, even if it is worthless in the eyes of others, which also changes Juli's worldview. In real life, when many parents are educating their children, they will use the established eyes of the world to define the importance of things. This seems safe and not easy to make mistakes, because it is based on the experience of predecessors to make judgments. But it cannot easily deny the things that the child thinks are important and worth pursuing (except for the things that hurt the world), because in the denial again and again, the child will become easily withdrawn and easy to doubt himself. Children should be encouraged to look at different things, so that they can learn to recognize the multi-faceted nature of things in the process of understanding.

Bryce's father used to laugh at Juli's house for the bushes that covered the windowsills and the overgrown weeds in front of the door. He sneered at Juli's family, laughed at Juli's family's life in a mess, and laughed at Juli's two older brothers for playing music cynically, and all this was just a prejudice in his heart. Little do they know that the yard is not taken care of because Juli's father needs to take care of his mentally handicapped younger brother. Although the two brothers have been admitted to many universities, they plan to do music first, and then consider going to university. Juli's father did not complain about life because of this. On the contrary, he concentrated on painting, hoping to create better living conditions for his younger brother. He did not persuade Juli's two older brothers to give up their dreams because of the financial constraints of the family, but encouraged them to pursue music and choose their own path. In the later movie plot, I understand that the reason why Bryce's father has been complaining about Juli's family, laughing at them as waste, laughing at Juli's father's paintings, in fact, what he really laughed at in his heart should be himself, who used to be an excellent saxophonist in the orchestra, I didn't hold on to my dream, I was worried that I would pay too much to realize it, and finally chose to give up. As Juli said, she felt that there was something rotten in Bryce's father's heart, which should be the sincerity and kindness, and the pursuit of dreams.

The things we see are often only one-sided, but we often use our own opinions to judge the situation of others. Without digging into the essence and true face of things, we directly draw conclusions, and even add trumped-up charges. As everyone knows, the reason behind it is something we never thought of. If you let go of your prejudices and narrow-mindedness, and have more sincerity and kindness towards the world, everything you face will not be full of sinister and mean, because if you choose beauty, you will naturally encounter beauty.

Flipped quotes

  • Bryce Loski: They're all chickens.

Chet Duncan: I'm proud of you Bryce. You overcame your fear.

    Bryce Loski: Huh?

Chet Duncan: You talked to her.

Bryce Loski: Oh. Yeah... it's no big deal.

Steven Loski: That's what she told you? They're all chickens?

    Bryce Loski: Yeah.

Steven Loski: She's a genius. You're both geniuses. Of course they're all chickens! A rooster's a chicken. The question is, is one of them a rooster or are they all hens?

Bryce Loski: [voiceover] Hens? Who said anything about hens? Then it hit me - Garrett didn't know jack shit about chickens.

  • Bryce Loski: When she walked out of the door, I thought back to the first time I saw her. How could anybody, ever, have wanted to run away from Juli Baker?

Juli Baker: He looked at me with those eyes, those once again dazzling eyes, and I knew that Bryce Loski was still walking around with my first kiss - but he wouldn't be for long.
