At a time when everyone is watching Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman", I chose to watch "The Lost City of Z" first, partly because of my love for biopics, and secondly because of Twilight Man Robert Pattin Sen, King Arthur Charlie Hunnam who wanted to see but didn't see it, and an ultra-low volume of films.

Based on the life of the British explorer Perth Foster, the film tells the story of Foster's bizarre disappearance in the early 20th century when he went deep into the jungle for three exploration expeditions in order to find the ancient civilization that had disappeared in the Amazon basin.

Perth Foster, who was originally a major officer of the British Royal Army, was brave, determined and pursued, but was discriminated against because of his poor background. He has a beautiful wife and a young son who are knowledgeable and wise and like-minded, and his family life is happy and happy. With the experience of working in the Royal Geographical Society, he was selected to survey the topography of the Amazon River Basin and draw maps. This successful expedition made him accidentally discover the traces of a lost civilization - the legendary city of gold, he Z city in my heart.

In fact, pursuing one's own dreams is called perseverance, and the result of persevering too much is loss. Although Perth Foster's original intention was somewhat narrow (to take risks in order to change the family's reputation), but exploring the unknown world---Z City has no intention to become the dream he pursued, the lifelong life in the soul willing.

People who insist on their dreams are often lonely, because they need to abandon all concerns, and even their own lives, in exchange for peace and belonging in their hearts.

His choice of expeditions affected his life and also affected his family. When his three children came to this world, he was not by his wife's side. Whether or not to stick to one's dreams and how to choose in a stable life for the family has become a new proposition. So, on the third adventure, the excellent assistant Pattinson chose to give up because he had a family; but Foster left his wife again and went on the road with his eldest son Jack.

What made me cry is the end of the film. One is the solemn sacrifice ceremony carried out by a group of unfriendly indigenous people carrying Foster and Jack on the Amazon River under the lights; When the compass brought back was handed over to the president of the Royal Geographical Society as promised, his original sorrowful eyes instantly brightened and there was hope, but at this time, the camera turned to Nina's lonely, lonely and painful back.

Foster finally sacrificed his family in exchange for being with Z City forever. However, it is not known whether this result is the luck of Great Britain, or the misfortune of Nina and the children.

Today, we, like Foster, are sometimes faced with the question of how to choose after conflicts between personal interests and work and family. Persistence or compromise? I think, you still have to learn to balance your reason in the face of everything, otherwise you will also face the loss of self.

Tribute to the great explorer Perth Foster.

In addition, the fact that 37 minutes were cut tragically is disgusting, but it is still necessary to evaluate the film fairly.

Charlie Hunnam has played a gentleman's explorer. One day he will make up for King Arthur. He will definitely not disappoint. In this film, his speech before the second expedition is the highlight, with enthusiasm, Super infectious.

And Robert Pattinson's role is a bit small, but the image of the bearded smoker and alcoholic adventure assistant has completely lost the imprint of the white and white vampire Twilight Man, and has obviously entered the ranks of the powerful.

Whether it's the mysterious Amazon jungle or Perth Foster's charisma, this is truly a touching masterpiece.

The Lost City of Z quotes

  • Jack Fawcett: I understand that it's dangerous, but you've said so yourself, with everything that's happened in Europe, it's not possible to choose a safe passage through life. So many men near my own age did not return from the war, and... And who is to say it will not happen again? It could, mother. It could happen again.

Nina Fawcett: By all accounts, I should be furious because you've just... You've just used my very own words against me. And how can I refute them? They are my own.

  • [last lines]

Nina Fawcett: [handing him the timepiece] The Brazilian gave me this to give to you. He said Percy told him you would understand. I have trained myself to be impartial to evidence, but surely... surely this is a sign.

Sir John Scott Keltie: Yes. I will have it examined.

Nina Fawcett: Thank you. That is all I can ask.
