It's not as heavy as I imagined, but more showing the tenderness in the predicament. The story of Sophia and the mayor's wife touched me deeper than the main storyline.

Abuse, abuse, self-reliance, World War II, Africa-America, slaves... I adopted the "double perspective" like "My Genius Girlfriend"/"Invisible Woman" in the later work, to see the changes and the passing time of the world; if if When we separate, we will send it by letter. The letters piece together an extraordinary sisterhood, and it's more about awakening and believing in one's own power; the filming brings these words to life, and it's fortunate that (whoopi Goldberg and Oprah, who were still serious in those years, managed to navigate them). A lot of gay elements were removed from the adaptation, and it's a pity that Shug Avery and Celie didn't get more ink; but maybe at the time, it made a bigger appearance, which was barely explained. But Mister's corner is a little redundant, which is a small disadvantage.

Sofia: Now you want a dead son-in-law, Mrs. Celie? You just keep on advising him like you doing.
