Undateable person

I'm thinking that Frances is undateable maybe because of her authenticity and sincerity, she's unabashedly expressing emotions and sharing stories, so she handles relationships poorly, even clumsy and aloof. Even though F said that Sophie and her are one person with different hair, it's not. Sophie seems to be more bound by the world, she has a lot of shackles in life, like most of us, the money, the fame and fortune. She's not living happily, but she's good at covering it up and showing everyone the happy part, yes no one wants to know how unfortunate your life is.

At the end of the film, it echoes what F said in the middle of the film. At the party, the eyes of her and S met in the air. They love each other deeply, but they have different life principles and life pursuits.

After writing this sentence, I suddenly like this movie a little bit.

First of all, this movie has created a very full image. Spiritually speaking, Francis Ha belonged to Hemingway's generation, that is, a young man exiled in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s. Although his future was uncertain, he never lost his fighting spirit. Another character, Sophie, belongs to Fitzgerald's novels, and the difference between rich people and others is that they have money, and the life it makes is worth trying, no matter how loathsome and decadent it is.

I didn't find Chinese subtitles, but I watched it effortlessly, because they have a similar growth trajectory and an irreplaceable and irreversible friendship. There are so many falls along the way but stubbornly define this story as "comedy", that is because every time I think of it, I can smile.

Frances Ha quotes

  • Benji: Who were you fucking last week, Frances?

    Frances: I make love

    Benji: Frances: undateable

  • Frances: I have so much to do. I think I'll probably read Proust... Because sometimes it's good to do what you're supposed to when you're supposed to do it.

    Caroline: Proust is pretty heavy.

Frances: Yeah, but it's worth it, I hear.

Caroline: No, I meant the book. Carrying it on the plane.

Frances: I should probably learn French first... and then read it in French.
