Little by little push the characters to destruction

Condensed, still, broken, lonely.

This is an ice storm created by Ang Lee.

As the woods gradually freeze, family relationships, husband and wife relationships, and friend relationships are constantly freezing, until the night of the ice storm, it breaks. In the end, my father cried when the family was reunited. Unknown, it was the driving force of life, the power that came from nowhere and drove us to make one after another to make our own orders. The family was surprised by the decision. This is the theme of director Ang Lee.

I said before that Ang Lee's movies are nothing to learn. I was wrong, and I corrected it to say that Ang Lee's movies are something we can't learn. His films are not constructed with techniques like Christopher Nolan. The compassion for life formed in Ang Lee's films, at least for now, is unknown to me.

It is not unreasonable that this film can become the foundation of Ang Lee's hard work in Hollywood. The task structure, content distribution and selection of shots in this film follow the rules of Hollywood studios, but with Ang Lee's unique compassion and reluctance, he presents the disintegration of the characters in the film shots like Hollywood. Little by little, pushing the characters to the edge of the cliff and the characters to the meat grinder is unprecedented for the United States that follows heroism, and this is also the unique charm of Ang Lee's films.

The Ice Storm quotes

  • Ben Hood: Well, that's the whole point of the holidays, Paul. So you and your sister can mope around the house, and your mother and I can wait on your hand and foot, while the two of you occasionally grunt for more food from behind the hair in your faces. Believe it or not, we actually enjoy it.

  • Paul Hood: When you think about it, it's not easy to keep from just wandering out of life. It's like someone's always leaving the door open to the next world, and if you aren't paying attention you could just walk through it, and then you've died. That's why in your dreams it's like you're standing in that doorway... and the dying people and the newborn people pass by you... and brush up against you as they come in and out of the world during the night. You get spun around, and in the morning... it takes a while to find your way back into the world.
